MTCR group is an interdisciplinary research lab in the School of Packaging   at Michigan State University (Go Green, Go White)

Our research team aims to perform innovative research at the crossroads of packaging and environmental sustainability. 

Our research focuses on studying mass transfer in packaging systems, such as food, beverage, and medical packaging, using fundamental principles and practical experiments, with an emphasis on environmental impact through environmental and toxicological assessments. 

We utilize cutting-edge detection methods, conduct predictive modeling, and perform experimental investigations to evaluate the migration or release of substances, including additives, polyfluorinated substances (PFAS), nanoparticles, and micro- and nano-plastics. 

Our research is crucial in advancing safer and more sustainable packaging practices that address the urgent need to understand the climate impact of packaging systems, including their benefits and potential risks.
