A virtual representation of Walk MS - an annual social event for people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
The virtual environment is the representation of the AT&T center of San Antonio, TX.
Navigation Interface:
Wheelchair: I connected (through RPC) two android phones with the two wheels of an actual wheelchair and used the rotation data from phones’ Gyroscope to navigate in the virtual world.
Microsoft Kinect: Kinect tracks the user’s foot movement.
In-Place Walk: HTC Vive tracks the user’s foot movement.
People with Parkinson’s have a problem with their balance and interacting with real-world objects e.g. pick up medicine, opening a door, etc. They also face problems following the specific instructions. I build a game where people with Parkinson will walk through a narrow hallway and follow some specific instructions. Instructions include answering the phone, answering/opening a door, picking up medication, etc.
I used Microsoft Kinect V2 to track the participant’s body and Wii Balance board to measure their balance while they are walking.
An upper body exercise game for elderly people.
Used Leap Motion device to track hand position and Vive controllers to track foot position.
Used Head Mounted Display’s (e.g. Oculus Rift, HTC Vive) tracking feature to track head movement.
At first, the participant’s reach is calibrated, and then the game generates some objects in front of the participant in the Virtual Environment and asks them to guess whether they can reach the object or not. Based on the answer (if yes), the participant has five seconds to reach and touch the object. Based on the answers and actions of the participants, I am trying to find out how people’s reach is affected.
Lower Body Reach Experiment (Unity3d, C#):
An upper body exercise game for people with Multiple Sclerosis with the goal to investigate whether their confidence and performance can be improved via virtual reality rehabilitation exercise game.
In this game, the participants sit on a chair and two HTC Vive controllers are attached to one of the participant’s foot to tracking its movement.
There are two conditions in the game, and they are –
Normal condition: foot co-ordinate is same as Vive controller’s co-ordinate.
Assisted condition: foot position is some offset ahead from Vive controller’s co-ordinate.
