TANNYA PHYSIO LIFE CARE / ADVANCE CUPPING THERAPY PHYSIOTHERAPY
Knee Joint Anatomy (For Knee Pain Understanding)
1. Bones
The knee joint is formed by three main bones:
Femur (Thigh Bone): Upper part of the knee joint.
Tibia (Shin Bone): Lower part that bears body weight.
Patella (Kneecap): Protects the joint and improves leverage of the thigh muscles.
2. Cartilage
Articular Cartilage: Smooth tissue covering bone ends that allows friction-free movement.
Meniscus (Medial & Lateral): Crescent-shaped fibrocartilage pads that act as shock absorbers and stabilizers between femur and tibia.
3. Ligaments
They provide stability to the knee:
ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament): Prevents tibia from sliding forward.
PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament): Prevents tibia from sliding backward.
MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament): Supports inner side of the knee.
LCL (Lateral Collateral Ligament): Supports outer side of the knee.

Lower Back Pain (Lumbago) —
Complete Physiotherapy Overview
Clinic: TANNYA PHYSIO LIFE CARE
Expert: Dr. Tarun Sharma (PT)
🔹 Anatomy of the Lower Back
The lower back (lumbar region) consists of:
5 lumbar vertebrae (L1–L5): form the main structure of the lower spine.
Intervertebral discs: soft, gel-like cushions between vertebrae that absorb shock.
Facet joints: allow movement and stability between vertebrae.
Spinal cord and nerve roots: pass through the spinal canal; control movement and sensation in lower body.
Muscles:
Erector spinae — maintains posture and helps extension of the spine.
Multifidus — stabilises vertebral segments.
Quadratus lumborum and gluteal muscles — support the trunk and pelvis.
Ligaments:
Anterior & posterior longitudinal ligaments — prevent excess movement.
Ligamentum flavum & interspinous ligaments — stabilise the spine.
🔹 Physiology of the Lower Back
The lumbar spine:
Bears most of the body’s weight.
Supports movement — flexion, extension, rotation, and lateral bending.
Protects the spinal cord and nerves that supply the legs.
Works with abdominal and pelvic muscles to maintain posture and stability.
Healthy functioning depends on strong core muscles, balanced load distribution, and correct spinal alignment.
🔹 Pathology (What Goes Wrong in Lower Back Pain)
Lower back pain can result from:
1. Muscle strain or ligament sprain – due to overuse or sudden movement.
2. Herniated (slipped) disc – disc material presses on nearby nerves.
3. Degenerative disc disease – age-related wear reduces disc height and flexibility.
4. Facet joint arthritis – inflammation and stiffness in spinal joints.
5. Spondylolisthesis – slipping of one vertebra over another.
6. Spinal stenosis – narrowing of the spinal canal compressing nerves.
7. Postural imbalance or weak core muscles – leading to chronic stress on the spine.
8. Sciatica – compression of the sciatic nerve causing pain radiating down the leg.
🔹 Causes of Lower Back Pain
Poor posture (prolonged sitting or standing).
Heavy lifting or improper bending technique.
Weak abdominal or back muscles.
Obesity or sedentary lifestyle.
Sudden twisting injuries or sports trauma.
Degenerative conditions (arthritis, osteoporosis).
Stress and muscle tension.
🔹 Symptoms
Dull aching or sharp stabbing pain in lower back.
Muscle stiffness and difficulty standing upright.
Pain radiating to buttocks or legs (sciatica).
Tingling or numbness in legs or feet.
Pain increases during bending, lifting, or prolonged sitting.
Decreased flexibility and mobility.
🔹 Physiotherapy Treatment at TANNYA PHYSIO LIFE CARE
1. Assessment
Detailed postural, neurological and muscular examination by Dr. Tarun Sharma (PT).
Identifying root cause: disc, muscle, ligament or nerve origin.
2. Pain Management (Acute Phase)
Electrotherapy: TENS, IFT, Ultrasound for pain relief and muscle relaxation.
Cryotherapy / Heat Therapy as per stage of inflammation.
Soft Tissue Mobilization and gentle manual therapy.
3. Restoration Phase
Stretching & Strengthening: Core muscles, back extensors, and glutes.
McKenzie or Williams exercises: for disc-related or postural back pain.
Cupping Therapy for muscle tightness and blood circulation.
Dry Needling for trigger point release and deep muscle relaxation.
Posture Correction & Ergonomic Advice: Proper sitting, sleeping, and lifting techniques.
4. Rehabilitation & Prevention
Core stabilization training (planks, bridges, pelvic tilts).
Spinal mobility exercises to maintain flexibility.
Education on correct body mechanics and home exercises.
Regular follow-up for progress evaluation and relapse prevention.
🔹 When to Seek Medical Help
Seek immediate physiotherapy or medical advice if you experience:
Severe pain after injury or fall.
Pain radiating to legs with numbness or weakness.
Difficulty controlling bladder or bowel movements.
Persistent pain lasting more than 2 weeks.
🔹 Prognosis
Most cases improve with early physiotherapy, postural correction, and exercise adherence.
Chronic or recurrent pain can be prevented by maintaining core strength and flexibility.
