While we’re unable to accept found or stray animals, we’re happy to help rehome pets that are being surrendered by their owners.
We understand that surrendering a pet can be an emotional and difficult decision, and we’re here to help when we can. However, we also want to be transparent about why there is a cost associated with surrendering an animal to Tank’s Legacy.
Tank’s Legacy Rescue is not a nonprofit organization. We do not receive government funding or grants, so the cost of caring for animals comes directly out of our own pockets and through the support of our community.
The standard surrender fee helps us cover the real costs associated with taking in your animal. These include:
Kennel Space – A one-time $200 kennel fee helps us provide a safe, clean, and secure space for your pet while they are in our care.
Initial Veterinary Check – Every surrendered animal is given a vet check to assess their health and make sure they’re up to date on necessary vaccines, preventatives, and treatments.
Daily Care – Feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and basic care while we search for a suitable forever home.
How You Can Reduce or Waive the Fee?
We know some people are doing their best and want to ease the transition for their pet. That’s why we offer options to lower or waive parts of the surrender fee:
Provide Up-to-Date Vet Records
If you can provide:
Proof of a current rabies vaccination (that doesn't expire within the next 6 months) (Subtract $50)
A vet exam from the last 3 months showing your pet is healthy and free of contagious diseases
— we may be able to waive the vetting portion of the fee.(Subtrat $150)
Donate a Kennel Instead of Paying the Fee
If you have a secure, outdoor dog kennel you no longer use, we are happy to accept it in place of the $200 kennel fee.
