To enrich the lives of students by providing access to a diverse collection of resources that foster a love of literacy and learning in our Tanglewood Tiger community.
Gifts and donations to the school library are accepted with the understanding that the decision for use and disposition of the materials and/or funds will be determined using the same selection criteria as purchased materials. All materials should support the curriculum and needs of library users and the library will determine how to best incorporate such materials into the existing collection. Gifts and donations, like purchased resources, will be removed from the collection at the end of their useful life. The donated item becomes the property of the library and will not be returned to the donor if it is not added to the collection. Materials not added to the library collection may be used for programs or given to classroom teachers or students to promote literacy in out growing Tigers.
Periodically, the school librarian will conduct an inventory of the school library collection and equipment. The inventory can be used to determine losses and remove damaged or worn materials which can then be considered for replacement. The inventory can also be used to deselect and remove materials that are no longer relevant to the curriculum or of interest to students. Additionally, the school librarian will develop a collection maintenance plan that includes a systematic inspection of materials that would result in weeding outdated, damaged, or irrelevant materials from the collection. Collection Maintenance and Weeding take place continually throughout the school year under the guidance of the librarian along with the School Library Programs Standards and Guidelines for Texas, FWISD Board Policy, the Ft Worth ISD Library Department and utilizing the CREW Weeding Manual.
