Six months after the events of Tangled, Rapunzel is set to become the official Princess of Corona. However, on the day before her coronation ceremony, Rapunzel and Eugene Fitzherbert, riding Maximus and Fidella, are out in the forest racing each other to the border wall with the Royal Guards in pursuit. Rapunzel is the first to make it to the wall and climbs to the top where she sees on the other side a magnificent view of the land beyond the kingdom. After a while the guards catch up and escort the two of them back to the castle.

During Rapunzel's coronation ceremony, the royal family is confronted by Lady Caine, who had disguised herself as a visiting duchess and freed the prisoners from the dungeons. Lady Caine seeks vengeance on Frederic for imprisoning her father, whom she describes as "a simple petty thief", because Frederic imprisoned every criminal in the kingdom after Rapunzel was kidnapped by Mother Gothel when she was a baby, regardless of how severe their crimes were. While Frederic and the rest of the royal guests are locked in a cage, Rapunzel reveals her golden hair and uses it as a weapon to defeat the criminals with Eugene and Cassandra's help and Lady Caine and her pirate crew are arrested. Despite proving her worth, Frederic feels more insecure about Rapunzel's safety than ever before and learning the truth about her sneaking out, he forbids her to leave Corona again without his permission.

While Rapunzel is having breakfast with her parents, King Frederic reveals that he admits his methods regarding Rapunzel's freedom have been rather unfair after discussing with Arianna. He confesses his trouble balancing his role as both King and her father but promises to reconsider his methods. However, King Frederic also explains Rapunzel's future as Queen, revealing she will gain many responsibilities, such as protecting Corona from dangers both outside and inside the kingdom. Several pirates are committing crimes throughout the kingdom during this time, but all are soon captured and taken to the dungeons at the castle. Eugene visits Cassandra, trying to learn what's bothering Rapunzel and why she is keeping secrets. However, when Cassandra refuses to answer his questions, Eugene reveals his knowledge that Cassandra does not approve of his and Rapunzel's relationship but tries to assure he only wants what is best for Rapunzel. Cassandra quickly begins to leave the room but reveals her beliefs that Eugene only cares about his own needs and is not thinking about Rapunzel's best interests.

Later on, Rapunzel's coronation ceremony begins, and in during which, the royal family is confronted by a pirate known as Lady Caine, who seeks vengeance on King Frederic for imprisoning her father. It turns out that after Rapunzel was kidnapped the King started to unfairly imprison all the outlaws in the kingdom including Lady Caine's father who was just a simply petty thief. Frederic and the rest of the royal guests are kidnapped, but Rapunzel refuses to stand down and reveals her golden hair. She uses it as a weapon to defeat the pirates with Eugene and Cassandra's help, saving her father. That night, despite proving her worth, Frederic feels more insecure about Rapunzel's safety than ever before. With the very reason Rapunzel was taken in the first place having returned, Frederic feels he is forced to forbid Rapunzel from ever leaving the walls of Corona without his consent, driving his daughter to tears.

But Rapunzel wants to roam. She wants to explore. She wants to see the world before she settles down and gets married or has her coronation and becomes the princess of Corona. There seems to be a little disconnect with what everyone wants.

How many of you have seen the movie Tangled before? I remember when it first came out. I was excited to be able to see it. When my girls were old enough to want to watch movies, I let them watch it as well. It was one of their favorite princesses as well. She always has been one of my favorites. As you can all probably remember, at the end of the movie it was a great happily ever after. Rapunzel and Eugene got together in the end and were happy.

Tangled Before Ever After takes place before the wedding (about six months before in Tangled time). You get the feeling that Rapunzel loves her new life but still feels a little bit like a captive. Part of the story is that everyone in the film, including the king and queen, have to learn how to live with Rapunzel after almost 18 years of her being missing. More importantly, Rapunzel has to learn how to be a princess despite her desire to be free. She loves her life but still longs for some semblance of freedom.

the first thing i want to talk about with before ever after is the way it establishes the characters of rapunzel and eugene and how it sets up the development of the new dream relationship for the rest of the show during the introductory sequence.

before ever after does this thing a couple of times where it frames a character or scenario in such a way as to lead the viewer to expect one thing, only to reveal more information or additional context that significantly shifts our understanding. and these are interesting moments to examine, because of what they can say subtextually about the characters involved.

(*something i will talk about more in my next segment; for now, the tl;dr here is even though eugene loves rapunzel deeply, and even though she drastically changed his outlook on life in a matter of days, it takes much longer for habits of personality to change, and in before ever after eugene is still very deeply entrenched in his self-absorbed flynn rider persona. the core of his character growth over the course of the series is his journey of growing out of that persona as he becomes more emotionally open and less content to laze about enjoying his luxuries every day.)

TO CONCLUDE: i love the opening sequence of before ever after because it is a microcosm of the interpersonal conflict within the new dream relationship. it establishes very neatly and succinctly that the love rapunzel and eugene have for each other, though genuine and deep, is not enough, and that they have serious work to do in bridging the gaps between them in order for the relationship to become lasting and strong. the journey of new dream over the course of the series is one from this starting position of fragility and miscommunication hidden just beneath the surface to the end point of two people who are in tune with each other and understand each other perfectly, and all of that is built on the foundation set down in these first few minutes of the very first episode.

likewise with varian - in QFaD he is badly traumatized, and the remainder of s1 examines how the failure of his would-be support network to actually support him leads to his continued downward spiral and eventual violent breakdown; when he is punished for this that explicitly makes everything worse both for him and for everyone else, and after his redemption he features as a deuteragonist in what is essentially ptsd flashbacks: the episode. etc.

The TV movie begins with a quick recap of what happened in Tangled, narrated mostly by the "misunderstood good guy" Eugene. But eventually, Rapunzel takes over to let us know that we're about to learn about the great adventure that unfolded in the six months after Tangled ended, before Eugene and Rapunzel got married.

It's just the beginning of happily ever after for Rapunzel and Eugene. As Rapunzel reacquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona, she comes to realize that there is so much more she needs to learn about the world and herself before she becomes Princess of Corona. With the help of her handmaiden and friend, Cassandra, and Eugene, she begins to find the adventure she desires right outside her door. Life is about to get a little hairier!

In her room, Queen Arianne was taking off her jewelry while the King was putting some things in their closet. Like every night, a quiet knock echoed through their suite right on time. The Queen got up to grab a large basket and opened the door. Friedborg stood waiting, like always. The Queen simply handed the basket to her lady in waiting. She covered up the basket with a handkerchief before leaving. The Queen hoped no one caught her tonight.

So a lot of you mightn't know this but I am a huge fan of the 2010 film Tangled starring Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi. It was funny, romantic, and most importantly it was full of nostlagia and heart. After the 2012 short of Tangled, both Nathan Greno and Bryon Howard announced that Tangled was done and dusted and to me I was kinda disappointed when they said this because I loved Tangled so much especially both Rapunzel & Eugene and I wanted more adventure and fun with these two charcthers.

But suddenly out of the blue,it was announced that Tangled will return back again with a new TV special movie and of course a TV show based on the 2010 hit film of the same name.

Enough of me rambling about Tangled, lets go into the new show now shall we.

The story kicks off after Rapunzel's coronation from Tangled(2010)and Rapunzel(voiced by the original voice actor Mandy Moore)is struggling to come to terms with her new found home, her boyfriend Eugene Fizherbert(aka Flynn Rider) voiced by Zachary Levi)wants to marry her, even proposing to her with a lovely ring. But of course she doesn't want to get married to him yet and says she does love him but she wants to see more of the world again. Since Rapunzel's father is so overprotective of her,Rapunzel runs away with her friend Cassandra and stumbles across a mysterious rock. But when Rapunzel touches the mysterious rock, her brown short hair turns back to the way it was when Rapunzel was kidnapped by Mother Gothel from the first film. Terrified she tries to hid her hair, only to get caught by Eugene and Rapunzel thanks him for being understanding and not freaking out over her hair. Later an evil woman called Lady Kane comes along to the castle and things are about to get down.

So will Rapunzel save her kingdom from Lady Kane. Now before I give you my final verdict here is my good, bad and then verdict.

Good: All the original actors are back Mandy Moore,Zachary Levi,Jeffrey Tambor etc ,plus Rapunzel's parents can finally talk and they have names now; Queen Ariana(voiced by Julie Bowen which was suppose to be Ashley Judd but she dropped out)and King Fredric(voiced by Clancy Brown). The story is again heartwarming and the animation is great but.....

Bad: I miss the CGI animation from the original Tangled film, because the charcthers were more real looking and my question is how come the likes of How To Train Your Dragon stayed CGI as a TV show when Tangled didn't. Yes maybe its got to do with the budget and all but still I do miss the CGI animation from the 2010 film.

The songs are good too but there No I See The Light,When Will My Life Begin etc. Alan Menken and Glen Slater are back once again to do the songs in this. This time the songs are Wind In My Hair(which is a nice balled sung by Mandy Moore)and Live Happily Ever After All sung by Mandy Moore,Clancy Brown and Zachary Levi. Levi again is hilarious as Eugene Fitzherbert and even more dreamy(although his other counterpart in the 2010 version was more better in design).

Overall I am so happy that Tangled is back again in my life and I am looking forward to getting this and the TV Show on DVD(if it gets released which I am praying it will be).
