LAST WEEK OF HIGHSCHOOL

I watched with wide, excited, and anticipating eyes

As one by one, footsteps ringed across the aisle.

Each footstep spoke of hard-fought victories,

And when my turn came, I walked with a sense of success. 

With the shaking of hands and bowing of heads

Students finished high school and entered college.

The prospect of the future drew near,

Many were scared and excited, just like me.

All in my mind, all imagined.

Just a fleeting thought created during a break before the next subject.

However, unlike other fantasies, 

This imagined scenario is about to become real, real soon.
