If you want the ultimate safety and situational awareness for travel or outdoor activities, choose TANFESO Open Ear Earbuds; if you need a comprehensive fitness companion that doubles as your audio source, choose APOYOU 2.
I have spent considerable time analyzing the specifications of these two distinct devices to help you decide which one truly fits your lifestyle. The choice isn't about which brand is more popular or which has a lower price tag right now; it is about understanding what each product was engineered to do. One is a dedicated audio tool designed to keep your ears open to the world, while the other is a multi-functional wearable that prioritizes health tracking and smart notifications above all else. If you are looking for the best open ear headphones for flights, the design philosophy of the TANFESO unit aligns much better with the specific needs of air travel comfort and hearing announcements. However, if your primary goal is to monitor your heart rate and steps while listening to music, the APOYOU 2 offers a feature set that the TANFESO simply cannot match. This comparison cuts through the marketing noise to focus on the hard data: battery capacity, connectivity standards, sensor capabilities, and physical design. You need to know exactly what you are getting before you make a purchase, so let's dive into the specifics.
• TANFESO Open Ear Earbuds: Best for total situational awareness and lightweight comfort during long wear sessions, but lacks any health tracking sensors or smartwatch functionality.
• APOYOU 2: Offers an impressive 10-day battery life and robust health monitoring features like heart rate and sleep tracking, though the earbud integration is secondary to the watch interface.
• The Verdict: Choose TANFESO if your priority is safe, open-air listening for travel or sports; choose APOYOU if you want a single device to manage your fitness data and daily notifications.
The TANFESO M100 is built around a singular, powerful concept: keeping your ears completely free from obstruction while still delivering sound. This is not a traditional in-ear bud that plugs into your canal; it uses an open-ear clip-on design made from premium soft silicone. This construction is critical for anyone who wears glasses, as the ergonomic surround prevents the pressure points that often come with standard earbuds. Weighing in at just 0.18 ounces per unit, the burden on your ears is virtually non-existent. This makes it an ideal candidate for long-haul scenarios, such as being on a plane or sitting in a busy airport terminal, where the pressure of traditional headphones can become uncomfortable over time.
The core strength here is the "Bone Conduction Driver" technology paired with the open design. Because the drivers sit outside the ear canal, they allow you to hear ambient sounds—like flight attendant announcements, car horns, or colleagues talking—while you listen to your own playlist. This is a safety feature that cannot be overstated. In the context of finding the best bluetooth earbuds for flights, this transparency is often more valuable than active noise cancellation, especially when you need to remain aware of your surroundings without removing your headphones. The device utilizes Bluetooth 5.4, which promises a stable connection up to 33 feet and low-latency audio transfer. This ensures that whether you are streaming video or taking a call, the audio stays synchronized and reliable.

However, this design comes with trade-offs. There is no active noise cancellation mentioned in the specifications, meaning you will hear the roar of a jet engine or the chatter of the cabin clearly alongside your music. If you are someone who requires total silence to enjoy a movie or relax, this might not be the right tool. Additionally, there are no biometric sensors built into the earbuds themselves. You won't get step counts or heart rate data from the TANFESO unit. It is purely an audio device. If your goal is to track your workout intensity or sleep patterns, you will need to look elsewhere. But if your definition of "perfect" is a pair of headphones that you forget you are wearing because they are so light and comfortable, the TANFESO delivers on that promise.
The APOYOU 2 takes a different approach entirely by merging a smartwatch with wireless earbuds into a single package. This is not just a pair of earbuds; it is a full-fledged fitness tracker with a 1.52-inch IPS color display. The primary draw here is the versatility. With a massive 400mAh battery, this device claims to last up to 10 days under normal use and offers a standby time of over 25 days. For a traveler or a busy professional, having a device that doesn't require charging every night is a significant advantage. The screen itself is described as having a 360x360 resolution with an always-on display capability, ensuring that your stats and notifications are visible even in bright sunlight.
This device is heavily focused on health and activity. It includes continuous heart rate monitoring, sleep analysis, and a pedometer that tracks steps and calories burned. It supports over 100 sports modes, ranging from walking and running to swimming and badminton. The IP67 waterproof rating adds another layer of utility, allowing you to wear it during intense workouts or in the rain without worry. The smart features extend beyond fitness; you can receive reminders for calls, messages from apps like WhatsApp and Instagram, and even use the watch to control your phone's camera remotely. If you are the type of person who wants to see your heart rate spikes during a run or check your sleep score immediately after waking up, the APOYOU 2 is engineered specifically for that workflow.
The trade-off lies in the audio experience relative to its purpose. While it functions as a Bluetooth headset, the earbuds are integrated into the watch form factor, which changes how you wear them compared to a dedicated headphone. The audio quality is likely optimized for voice calls and casual listening rather than high-fidelity immersion. Furthermore, because it is a complex electronic device with a large screen and multiple sensors, it may feel bulkier on the wrist than a simple pair of earbuds. It is also worth noting that the earbuds are part of the watch ecosystem, meaning their primary role is to support the watch's connectivity rather than stand alone as the main event. If you prioritize the noise cancelling headphones for flights experience where isolation is key, this hybrid device might not offer the same level of acoustic separation as a dedicated, heavy-duty ANC system, though its open nature helps with awareness.

• Best for Water Resistance → Tie (with nuance): TANFESO offers IPX7 waterproofing for sweat and rain, while APOYOU offers IP67 for similar protection; both handle moisture well, but the watch form factor of APOYOU handles submersion risks slightly differently due to the screen sealing.
• Best for Audio Latency → TANFESO Open Ear Earbuds: Bluetooth 5.4 is explicitly highlighted for low latency and quick data transfer, ideal for syncing video audio.
After weighing the specifications and use cases, I would personally buy the TANFESO Open Ear Earbuds for my upcoming travels. When flying, the ability to hear the crew without removing the device is invaluable, and the ultra-lightweight design means I won't suffer from ear fatigue during a long haul. The Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity gives me confidence that my audio will stay synced, and the open-ear design is simply superior for the specific intent of staying safe and alert while traveling. While the APOYOU 2 is a fantastic gadget for gym-goers who need constant health metrics, it feels like a compromise for someone whose primary goal is high-quality, safe audio consumption. For the specific need of best open ear headphones for flights, the TANFESO wins on pure functionality and comfort.
While they are lightweight, the open-ear design means they do not block external noise. They are better suited for napping in quiet environments or light travel rest rather than deep sleep in noisy settings.
Yes, the APOYOU 2 is compatible with most smartphones running Android 4.4 and iOS 8.0 or above, allowing you to sync fitness data and receive notifications across platforms.
The device carries an IP67 water resistance rating, which protects against sweat and rain, making it suitable for showering and intense workouts, though it is not rated for deep-water diving.
No, the TANFESO M100 does not feature active noise cancellation. Instead, they allow ambient sound to pass through so you remain aware of your surroundings while listening to audio.
