Driven by purpose. Led by students.
Read our story and meet the voices shaping our school.
The Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) is the highest governing student body of Tandaay High School, dedicated entirely to the welfare, rights, and representation of the student populace. We serve as the vital, active bridge between the students, the faculty, and the school administration.
Our story began in June 2001 when Tandaay High School opened as an annex of Malawag High School to give students direct access to education locally, saving them from having to travel to far-away schools. As our campus grew, a need for an official, unified student voice emerged. This became a reality in 2003 with the establishment of our student council and the election of our very first President, Mr. Jojo Elcano.
For years, the council operated under the SSG banner until the Department of Education passed a national directive establishing the Learner Government Program (LGP). Under this DepEd order, student councils nationwide transitioned into today's modern SSLG to promote a more inclusive, learner-centered approach to student leadership.
Today, our core focus remains to foster a proactive, inclusive, and innovative school environment. Guided by our pillars of Ductio, Servitium, and Integritas (Leadership, Service, and Integrity), we design programs and community engagements that hone leadership skills, champion total data transparency, and protect the voice of every TanHSeans.
The foundational history of Tandaay National High School (TNHS) began on October 13, 2000, during the 34th Regular Session of the Sangguniang Bayan of Nabua, Camarines Sur. Local legislator Hon. Noriel R. Bernales officially sponsored Resolution No. 005-070-2000F, which formally requested the provincial government to establish a high school within Barangay Tandaay to serve the educational needs of the local youth. This vision gained immediate momentum when Governor Luis R. Villafuerte approved the legislative initiative, recognizing the urgent necessity of bringing accessible secondary education to the rural community. To handle the complex administrative transition, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Corazon Z. Malaya was tapped to provide crucial leadership and ensure the school met all necessary Department of Education operational requirements.
Because of its centralized geographic location, Barangay Tandaay was selected as the perfect hub to cater to students from multiple neighboring rural areas. In June 2001, the school officially opened its doors to its first batch of students, operating initially as an extension campus under the name Malawag High School โ Tandaay Annex. The pioneering academic year was defined by a severe lack of resources, forcing the pioneering faculty and students to adapt to a campus completely devoid of permanent school buildings, proper furniture, and standard instructional facilities.
Faced with these severe infrastructure deficits, the local community rallied together ahead of the next academic year. By June 2002, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), barangay officials, and local residents launched a massive bayanihan effort to manually construct makeshift classrooms out of temporary local materials. This community-led intervention successfully housed the rapidly growing student enrollment until national funding could be secured for permanent concrete school buildings.
Over the next two decades, the institution formally separated from its mother school to become an independent entity known as Tandaay National High School.
