Ethan Autrey

Background: 

Ethan Autrey is a Geospatial Science student at Sam Houston State University pursuing a minor in Management Information Systems. Originally from Montgomery, Texas, Ethan has developed a strong interest in geospatial technologies, spatial analysis, and data-driven decision-making. Through his coursework and hands-on projects, he has gained experience using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, and Python to analyze spatial data, create maps, and support real-world problem solving. His academic background has provided him with a strong foundation in GIS, remote sensing, and geospatial data management.

Internship Goals: 

During his internship, Ethan aims to expand his technical knowledge by applying geospatial technologies to real-world challenges. He is particularly interested in gaining experience with drone imagery, remote sensing, GIS analysis, and spatial data visualization. By working alongside researchers and industry professionals, he hopes to strengthen both his technical and professional skills while exploring new applications of geospatial science.

Career Aspirations: 

Ethan plans to graduate in December 2026 and pursue a full-time career in the geospatial industry. His primary interests are in coastal and marine environments, where he hopes to use GIS and spatial technologies to support water resource management, environmental monitoring, conservation, and coastal resilience efforts. He is passionate about leveraging geospatial data to better understand and protect natural systems while contributing to meaningful environmental solutions.

Interests: 

Outside of academics and professional development, Ethan enjoys fishing, camping, and working out. Spending time outdoors has strengthened his appreciation for natural environments and has further fueled his interest in geospatial applications related to water and environmental systems. Whether exploring new fishing spots, camping with friends and family, or pursuing fitness goals, he values the discipline, persistence, and continuous growth that these activities promote.
