Background:
Jacob Poland resides in Corpus Christi, Texas, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. He previously earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Del Mar College, where he built a strong academic foundation. Jacob’s path into technology has been shaped by a growing interest in computer systems, scripting, and hands-on technical support. His experience ranges from automating IT workflows with Python to maintaining hardware and deploying systems in a university setting. He brings a thoughtful blend of creativity and problem-solving to every role, and he is continuously driven to explore new areas of computing that challenge both his analytical and practical abilities.
Internship Goals:
Jacob used his internship as an opportunity to explore areas outside his primary interest in cybersecurity. He gained hands-on experience working with Arduino microcontrollers, designing circuit diagrams, and programming embedded systems. The work was both challenging and rewarding, pushing him to develop new technical skills in embedded systems and electronics. While the internship did not focus on cybersecurity directly, Jacob believes the experience will prove valuable in his long-term career. It gave him insight into hardware-level computing and sparked his interest in the growing field of Internet of Things (IoT) security, which he hopes to explore further as he advances in the cybersecurity domain.
Career Aspirations:
Jacob’s long-term goal is to become a cyber threat analyst. He is passionate about uncovering vulnerabilities, analyzing exploits, and understanding the ever-changing threat environment. With a strong foundation in computer science and growing experience in cybersecurity tools like Burp Suite and Wireshark, Jacob is preparing to enter the field with confidence and purpose. After graduation, he plans to move to a larger city such as San Antonio or Denver to pursue career opportunities that allow him to contribute to cyber defense and threat intelligence teams.
Interests/Hobbies:
Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, Jacob enjoys playing video games, listening to music, skateboarding, and 3D printing. His personal and technical projects reflect his hands-on approach to learning and exploration, many of which are shared on his GitHub: https://github.com/JacobDPoland.
