Background: Nicholas, a native of Austin, Texas, is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science at Texas A&M University Corpus-Christi. His academic journey has been marked by a strong interest in health and monitoring, water studies, and the use of geospatial information science.
Internship Goals: Nicholas hopes to apply the scientific knowledge he has built in his studies to real-world applications via the research projects provided by Texas A&M Corpus-Christi and Agrilife Center. He is particularly excited about learning how GIS can be used to engage producers in making the best decisions for their crops and focusing on data analytics with real-world implications. Through this internship, he aims to develop skills in geospatial data analysis and learn which systems or solutions work best to combat the problems facing crops, then how they can be adapted to meet future challenges.
Career Aspirations: Looking ahead, Nicholas aspires to become a leading hydrologist in the field. He envisions a career where he can innovate and implement data-driven solutions that support sustainable water practices.
Interests: In his free time, Nicholas enjoys exploring the outdoors, being involved in organizations, and participating in research. One of the organizations he is a part of is the Islander Green Team, which engages the community in education and outreach. The team holds biweekly meetings to engage the community on recent environmental developments and projects they can do to be sustainable. Once a semester, they work on a beach cleanup and participate in university-hosted events. Nicholas often goes outdoors weekly to enjoy the fresh air and explore, finding new plants and animals. He joined in the spring of 2024 as an undergraduate student volunteer at Dr. Murgulet’s water supply studies.
