Ceramic materials are oldest man made material. Ceramic processing is possibly one of the earliest technology developed by humankind. It certainly predates metal processing by few thousand years. Last 100 years has seen quantum leap in our understanding of ceramic processing and sintering. Still there are things unknown. In the last decade we have seen few breakthroughs in ceramic processing. Flash sintering and Cold sintering are two of them. These new processing techniques have potential to revolutionize the ceramic processing industry. Ceramic processing industry is very energy intensive. These new processing techniques can bring down the energy consumption and also the green house gas emission significantly. However, the underlying mechanisms for these sintering techniques are still debated. Our goal in this lab is to use a combination of experiments and computational modelling to understand the mechanism and also to develop and refine these sintering technologies in the lab and transfer it to the industry.
