Tendulkar wrote the play Gidhe (; The Vultures) in 1961, but it was not produced until 1970. The play was set in a morally collapsed family structure and explored the theme of violence. In his following creations, Tendulkar explored violence in its various forms: domestic, sexual, communal, and political. Thus, Gidhe proved to be a turning point in Tendulkar's writings with regard to establishment of his own unique writing style.[10]

In his 1972 play, Sakhrm Binder (Sakhrm, the Binder), Tendulkar dealt with the topic of domination of the male gender over the female. The main character, Sakhrm, is a man devoid of ethics and morality, and professes not to believe in "outdated" social codes and conventional marriage. He accordingly uses the society for his own pleasure. He regularly gives "shelter" to abandoned wives and uses them for his sexual gratification while remaining oblivious to the emotional and moral implications of his exploits. He justifies all his acts through claims of modern, unconventional thinking, and comes up with hollow arguments meant in fact to enslave women. Paradoxically, some of the women which Sakhrm had enslaved buy into his arguments and simultaneously badly want freedom from their enslavement.[12]

In the 1990s, Tendulkar wrote an acclaimed TV series, SwayamSiddha, in which his daughter Priy Tendulkar, noted Television actress of 'Rajani' fame,[17] performed in the lead role. His last screenplay was for Eashwar Mime Co. (2005), an adaptation of Dibyendu Palit's story, Mukhabhinoy, and directed by theatre director, Shyamanand Jalan and with Ashish Vidyarthi and Pawan Malhotra as leads.[18]

In his writing career spanning more than five decades, Tendulkar has written 27 full-length plays and 25 one-act plays. Several of his plays have proven to be Marathi theatre classics.[22] His plays have been translated and performed in many Indian languages.[23]

Many of Tendulkar's plays derived inspiration from real-life incidents or social upheavals. Thus, the rise of Shiv Sena in Maharashtra in the 1970s was reflected in Tendulkar's Ghshirm Kotwl.[23] The true story of a journalist who purchased of a woman from the rural sex industry to reveal police and political involvement in this trade, only to abandon the woman once he had no further need for her, is detailed in Tendulkar's Kamal.[25][26] The play was later made into a film Kamla (film). The real-life story of an actress whose acting career got ruined after her same-sex affair became public knowledge inspired Tendulkar to write Mitrchi Goshta.[27]

Besides the foregoing, Tendulkar's oeuvre includes a biography; two novels; five anthologies of short stories; 16 plays for children, including Ble Miltt (1960) and Ptlchy Poriche Lagin (1965); and five volumes of literary essays and social criticism, including Ratrani (1971), Kowali Unhe (1971), and Phuge Sobnche (1974). All in all, Tendulkar's writings have contributed to a significant transformation of the modern literary landscape in Marathi and other Indian languages.

For a little background: Gupta played for more than 10 years in the first violin section of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, having joined in 2007 as the orchestra's youngest member, at age 19. Shortly after joining the orchestra, Gupta started giving violin lessons to Nathaniel Ayers, the Juilliard-trained violinist whose spiral into mental illness and homelessness became the subject of a series of Los Angeles Times columns by Steve Lopez. Those columns inspired a book, then a movie called The Soloist.

On Friday, Gupta performed from the center of the room, on a carpet lined with candles, while the audience of community members and supporters surrounded him on couches. Gupta played against a backdrop of street sounds, the outside world still softly audible.

What a treat, to finally hear it played live and to be mesmerized by this music alongside a roomful of silent and attentive listeners. I was fascinated by the way Gupta used vibrato - his is already so varied, and then he added the Indian-style decoration that is kind of an over-vibrato. Playing on his Benning violin, Gupta also used a Baroque bow throughout the performance.

The music itself was gripping and beautiful, but dark. Did she learn to laugh again? I'm not confident she did. If so, it was some wicked-fast, manic laughter, with moments of spooky-raspy sul ponticello playing (reference to Schoenberg's "sprechtstimme"?), plus lots of double-stops and string crossings. A great performance.

Gupta concluded by playing the first movement of Bach's Sonata in G minor - savoring every note always hitting the perfect resonance. With candles all around, plus the awareness that the Paul Williams Community Room was formerly a funeral parlor, this began to feel like a seance. What spirits were haunting the room? It had such good acoustics, I could even hear Gupta breathing.

Gupta said that he suspects that Bach never really meant for the "Sei Soli" for violin to be public, based on the fact they are so intensely personal and intimate, written following the death of Bach's first wife. When Gupta first played solo Bach, he found it to be both thrilling and daunting to play "music that was such an ecosystem unto itself."

Gupta talked a little bit about what it was like to play at Disney Hall one day and then Skid Row the next - or sometimes both in the same day. He said that spending time in Skid Row "unveils the most fragile and vulnerable parts of ourselves." We ask, how could a place like this exist? We don't want to look at the fact of its existence. But meeting the people who live there, he saw a strength. "They refuse to take the entirety of their identity from the worst thing that ever happened to them," Gupta said. When he is performing for people who live on Skid Row, "I'm playing toward a kind of liberation."

What is she going to prove by playing? It's ridiculous. She's the best woman golfer in the world, and I want to emphasize 'woman.' We have our tour for men, and they have their tour. She's taking a spot from someone in the field. "

In the strongest comments yet about Sorenstam becoming the first

woman in 58 years to compete on the PGA Tour, Singh said the

32-year-old Swede has no business playing at the Colonial and

should stick to her own tour.

Singh knows he won't be playing in the same group as Sorenstam when she becomes the first woman in 58 years to compete on the PGA Tour. His name will be drawn from a pool of PGA Tour winners when the pairings are made.

Sorenstam decided in February to accept a sponsor's exemption to

the Colonial. The last woman to play on the PGA Tour was Babe

Zaharias, who qualified for the 1945 Los Angeles Open. She made the

36-hole cut, but was eliminated in the third round with a 69.

''What is she going to prove by playing? It's ridiculous,'' said

Singh, a two-time major champion who ranks No. 7 in the world.

''She's the best woman golfer in the world, and I want to emphasize

'woman.' We have our tour for men, and they have their tour. She's

taking a spot from someone in the field.''

In 1998, he played in an unofficial event called the ''Super

Tour'' that matched the scorecards of nine professionals after

playing 18 holes a day in four Asian cities. Laura Davies was

invited to play, and finished 39 strokes behind Singh.

''Laura Davies is a long-ball hitter, but she still had to hit

good irons,'' Singh said. ''It's just different for ladies to play

on the men's tour. It's like getting the Williams sisters to play

against a man, and they're far better athletes than she (Sorenstam)

is.''

''Some people don't believe she should be out here -- golfers and

men in general,'' Hoch said. ''Most guys hope she plays well, and

what comes out of this is that she realizes she can't compete

against the men.''

World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, 2011 Open Champion Darren Clarke and 2003 U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk will each serve as playing captains for their respective teams of six competitors, all aged 50 and older and members of the PGA TOUR Champions.

Langer counts the 1985 and 1993 Masters among his three PGA TOUR victories, and over the past 16 years has established himself as one of the most dominant players in PGA TOUR Champions history. Since turning 50, he has won a remarkable 46 times, including 12 senior major championships. A native of Germany, Langer represented Europe in 10 Ryder Cups from 1981 to 2002. Among his other accomplishments, the 2002 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee was the first World Number 1 when the Official World Golf Ranking debuted in 1986, and he has won tournaments on all six continents where golf is played.

Stricker captained the victorious United States teams in the 2021 Ryder Cup and 2017 President Cup, played in the bi-annual events eight times between 1996 and 2013, and will serve as U.S. vice captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup. A 12-time PGA TOUR winner, Stricker has finished top-10 in 13 major championships. Since turning 50, the Wisconsin native has won 16 PGA TOUR Champions titles, including seven senior majors. He has won five times this season and currently leads the Charles Schwab Cup Money List by a wide margin.

"I hope she misses the cut. Why? Because she doesn't belong out here," Singh told an AP reporter during an interview after the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte, N.C. "If I'm drawn with her, which I won't be, I won't play."

On Tuesday, Singh said he would play with Sorenstam if they both made the cut and were paired in the weekend rounds. But he said something would be wrong if the two were paired for the first two rounds because, as a past champion, he is drawn from a different pool.

"This is a man's tour," he said. "There are guys out there trying to make a living. It's not a ladies' tour. If she wants to play, she should - or any other woman for that matter - if they want to play the man's tour, they should qualify and play like everybody else." 2351a5e196
