Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) is the independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who mysteriously vanished when she was a teen. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Against her father’s final wishes, Lara leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island. Her mission will not be easy; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Against all odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit, she must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, she could earn the name Tomb Raider.

Following the disappearance of her father, Lord Richard Croft, Lara Croft makes a living as a bike courier. She is arrested after a collision with a police car. Richard's business partner Ana Miller posts her bail and urges Lara to accept her inheritance. Lara believes her father to still be alive, but Ana warns Lara that if she does not claim her inheritance, the family estate, Croft Manor, will be sold off. Lara reluctantly accepts and gains access to a secret chamber in her father's tomb, where she finds a pre-recorded video message from Richard detailing his research into Himiko, the mythical Queen of Yamatai who was said to command the power over life and death. Richard warns Lara to destroy his research, but she ignores his warnings and investigates further.

Not yet having received her inheritance Lara is forced to pawn the jade pendant her father gave her. With the money Lara travels to Hong Kong where she hires Lu Ren, captain of the ship Endurance, to sail into the Devil's Sea and the island of Yamatai. The ship capsizes in a violent storm and Lara washes ashore where she is knocked unconscious. She awakens only to encounter Mathias Vogel, the leader of an expedition to locate Himiko's tomb. The expedition has been funded by a shadowy organization called Trinity, which seeks to harness and weaponize Himiko's power. Mathias takes Lara prisoner, claiming that he killed her father and revealing that he intends to use Richard's research to continue his expedition. He adds Lara and Lu to his slave force. The two of them try to escape, but only Lara succeeds.

After surviving rapids and narrowly avoiding falling over a waterfall with the wreck of a wartime airplane, Lara is forced to kill a Trinity guard after nightfall. She follows a mysterious figure through the jungle and discovers that the figure is her father, who stayed on the island to prevent Trinity from finding Himiko's tomb. After Lara convinces him that she is real and not a figment of his imagination, Richard treats her injuries. Despite his protests, Lara sets off the next morning to steal Mathias' satellite phone. Lara makes contact with Lu, and he, along with the other slaves, stage a distraction that allows Lara to infiltrate the Trinity camp and take the phone. In the ensuing chaos, Lu grabs an assault rifle, provides cover for the escapees, and guns down several Trinity soldiers, while Richard makes his way to Himiko's tomb but is captured by Mathias, who persuades Lara to open the tomb, something she has prepared for since she was a child. At that point, the entrance to the tomb self-destructs and falls away, allowing them to enter the tomb which has not been seen for over two thousand years.

The party navigates a series of booby traps and locates Himiko's sarcophagus. When a Trinity soldier attempts to remove her corpse, he is infected by a highly infectious pathogen that reduces him to an aggressive, necrotic zombie. Lara realizes that Himiko was an asymptomatic carrier of the virus, who chose to entomb herself so that she could not infect others. Mathias concludes that Trinity wants to create a bio-weapon out of her body but he cannot remove Himiko's body and instead settles for cutting off a finger, which he seals in a pouch. In the confusion, Lara and Richard overpower the remaining soldiers, although Mathias escapes and Richard becomes infected. Knowing there is no cure, Richard proposes destroying Himiko's tomb to prevent the disease from spreading across the world. Lara pursues Mathias as Richard sets off a bomb, killing himself and sealing the tomb. Lara confronts and kills Mathias by kicking him off a ledge after a fight. She barely escapes the tomb as it collapses, regrouping with Lu and the slaves; they commandeer a Trinity helicopter to escape Yamatai.

The famous Tomb Raider Games have inspired a series of successful films that have been enjoyed by audiences worldwide. And if you have played video games or seen movies, you know a lot of action and adventure are involved.

The Tomb Raider franchise began with an action-adventure video game series created by British gaming company Core Design. The main character of the series is Lara Croft, a tomb raider who scavenges ancient and historical artifacts from tombs and ruins.

To date, there are only three Tomb Raider movies, although a fourth one is currently on hiatus, after being delayed by world events. Here we look at the movies we've seen Lara Croft in so far and their connections to each other and the video games.

What follows next is a narrative that contains everything you'd expect from a story based on Tomb Raider. There are tombs, traps, betrayals, near-death experiences, and of course the ultimate success of Lara's mission.

The box will unleash a plague on humanity if opened, so Lara is tasked with ensuring it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Once again her journey involves exotic locations, near-death experiences, betrayals, and, of course, tombs.

At this point, you know what's coming next. Travel to beautiful destinations, trips through mysterious tombs, a near-death experience or two thanks to some traps, and some good old-fashioned betrayal. All before the setup of Lara's next big adventure. Now we just have to wait to see what happens next.

This is, at last, a real popcorn movie. I have been hearing for weeks from fans of "The Mummy Returns" and "Pearl Harbor," offended that I did not like those movies--no, not even as "popcorn movies." I responded that "The Mummy" was a good popcorn movie but "The Mummy Returns" was a bad popcorn movie. It is my job to know these things. That "Pearl Harbor" is even discussed in those terms is depressing.

The film opens with Lara Croft doing desperate battle with a deadly robot, in what turns out to be a homage to the openings of the Pink Panther movies where Clouseau took on Kato. When the dust settles, we learn that she is Lady Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie), daughter of the tomb raider Sir Richard Croft (Jon Voight), whose memorial stone sadly informs us, "Lost in the Field, 1985." Lady Lara lives in a vast country estate with a faithful butler and a private hacker and weapons system designer. Elaborate research-and-development and manufacturing facilities must be tucked away somewhere, but we don't see them.

Did I enjoy the movie? Yes. Is it up there with the Indiana Jones pictures? No, although its art direction and set design are (especially in the tomb with all the dead roots hanging down like tendrils). Was I filled with suspense? No. Since I had no idea what was going to happen, should happen, shouldn't happen or what it meant if it did happen, I could hardly be expected to care. But did I grin with delight at the absurdity it all? You betcha.

Tomb Raider is a film series consist of three movies, with two starring Angelina Joline and a reboot starring Alicia Vikander, based on the action-adventure video game franchise of the same name created by Core Design.

Initially, the prospects of a third Tomb Raider movie looked good. The property clearly had franchise potential and was still making money for Paramount, with The Cradle of Life showing enough promise in the international market to warrant another outing. Additionally, Chris Barrie, who had played Lara's butler Hillary in both Tomb Raider movies, stated in 2004 that a third installment was "on the slate" and that he hoped to return. Of course, Tomb Raider 3 never came to pass, and this decision was entirely down to Angelina Jolie. Speaking during the press tour for Taking Lives in 2004, Jolie stated "I just don't feel like I need to do another one, because I felt very happy with the last one. It was the one that we really wanted to do."

Jolie's Tomb Raider 3 reluctance is entirely understandable. The initial 2001 film was criticized for a poor script and lack of character depth, but The Cradle of Life offered a little more in that regard. This fits with Jolie's suggestion that her portrayal of Lara Croft had already achieved everything the actress wanted from the character. Taking a more business-minded stance, Angelina Jolie's performance is easily the strongest element of the Tomb Raider movies and despite the films themselves receiving poor reviews, becoming Lara turned Jolie into an A-list movie star. It seemed the logical choice to step away from a franchise that was on the decline financially when her growing reputation gave Jolie so many other options to explore.

In hindsight, Tomb Raider 3 likely wouldn't have hindered Angelina Jolie's meteoric rise, but it still could have impacted her career in a profound way. Following the 2-year gap between the first 2 movies, Tomb Raider 3 likely would've shot around the same time Jolie was working on Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Not only was this spy comedy another big hit for the actress, but she would also meet her future husband, Brad Pitt. Perhaps this opportunity wouldn't have been available if Jolie had committed to another Tomb Raider movie.

The villain of the film similarly is not particularly well developed with very unclear motives, which arguably, is the worst thing that a movie villain can have. Underdeveloped characters are an issue that occurs often in video game movies because a video game can extend into its own world for so much longer than a film can. Tomb Raider, spanning two-hours, chooses to focus on action sequences as opposed to character-building moments that the film could have greatly benefited from. be457b7860
