The Campaign
With the pandemic and lockdown levels affecting international travel, the tourism industry in Cape Town and the Western Cape was negatively impacted. To keep the destination top of the travel bucket list, Wesgro created a campaign that demonstrated how the region is the perfect antidote to lockdown life.
We turned to the experts, tourists who came to the Western Cape on holiday and never left - we called them the Neverending Tourists.
The Messenger Bot
I mapped out a fully customised Facebook Messenger bot which brought the Neverending Tourists' experiences to life through text messages, images, voice notes and short films. We invited users to engage with each tourist and discover their favourite weekend activities, and secret spots to hike, surf, cycle, or enjoy a bottle of wine.
We used Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and display banners to drive traffic to the Messenger bot so that our audiences who couldn't travel, could chat to the Neverending Tourists - their personal guides to the best of Cape Town and the Western Cape.
