So basically I'm attempting to make an interactive live wallaper that basically displays your unread gmail emails on your wallpaper. I'm trying to figure out how to access a person's gmail account on their device (with their permission of course).

I came across this old question: How to get the number of unread gmail mails (on android) - which detailed how to get the number of unread emails and was hoping that would be a start. But my app was being denied the permission: com.google.android.gm.permission.READ_GMAIL. Upon further research I found this support thread: =1728955d050a12bd&hl=en - which basically says that at version 2.3.5 of Gmail they shut off that non-public api access to Gmail. Which broke a lot of apps at the time.. But yeah.

I've had the problem for at least a couple years and I've narrowed it down to a single account. I consistently get the "failed to download the attachment. Please try again." error, or if I try to click the actual download button, I'll have a notification pop-up for about a second before going away like it never existed. It only happens for one gmail account though, of course it had to be my main account. Are there some settings that I should mess with or something to fix this? I've tried everything I could find online and it's insanely frustrating that this is still a problem.

The application is available completely free of charge from Google (carrier mobile data charges may still apply). It is currently compatible with all J2ME-enabled phones in the U.S. and works with a variety of carrier service plans.

Here in the land o' Android, notifications are actually designed in a sensible way that makes 'em reasonably easy to manage and customize. (The same can't be said for, ahem, certain other smartphone platforms.)

That'll let you get super-nuanced and decide if that specific type of notification should make a sound or show up silently, what specific sound it should make, if it should vibrate, if and how it should appear on your lock screen, and if it should override Android's Do Not Disturb mode and demand your attention even when you've got your phone in its silent state.

That way, if something is enough of a low priority that you've set it to be silent, it won't visually demand your attention, either, and you'll see it only when you fully expand your phone's notification panel.

As your business grows, so does your contact database. Over time, your phone's address book and your Google contacts become more important, but also more difficult to manage. If you are running a growing business, the moment to organize your contacts is now. The sooner, the better.

Gmail is one of the most popular email services around, and that makes Google Contacts (its native contact management tool) a very convenient service. If you are using Gmail and your phone for business, having these two connected makes absolute sense.

The manual setup to have your Google contacts on your phone is just a few clicks away. We'll cover those easy steps for Android and iPhone along with some other tips and tricks to help you manage your contacts more efficiently.

If you don't have a cloud service associated with your phone, your contacts "live" on your phone's memory. But most people are working with iCloud, Google Contacts, Outlook or another contact repository that exists in the cloud. If that's your case, the contacts you see on your phone's address books are probably pulling information from one or several of those places.

If you choose Google Contacts as your main repository, you might want to visit contacts.google.com to check all the contacts associated with your Google account before you import them into your phone.

The contacts you manually added will be under the 'Contacts' tab, while the people you have only exchanged emails with will be under 'Other Contacts.' This is important to know because once you start sharing your Google contacts with your phone, the only ones you'll see are those under the 'Contacts' tab.

To have only certain contacts on your phone, you can use an iPaaS or native integration like the one HubSpot has for Google Contacts. These types of tools allow you to filter which groups of contacts to sync from Google Contacts to other apps, and vice versa.

On 2 November 2006, Google began offering a mobile-application based version of Gmail for mobile phones capable of running Java applications. In addition, Sprint announced separately that it would make the application available from its Vision and Power Vision homepages, preloaded onto some new Sprint phones. The application gives Gmail its own custom menu system and the site displays attachments, such as photos and documents in the application.[18][19] The application was solely developed in Google's Kitchener office.[20]

On 4 July 2005 Google announced that Gmail Deutschland would be rebranded as Google Mail. The domain .mw-parser-output .monospaced{font-family:monospace,monospace}gmail.com became unavailable in Germany due to trademark disputes, in which cases users must use the domain googlemail.com.[30] From that point forward, visitors originating from an IP address determined to be in Germany would be forwarded to googlemail.com where they could obtain an email address containing the new domain.[31]

The domains are interchangeable so users obliged to use the googlemail.com domain are unable to select addresses already chosen by gmail.com users.[31] Inbound emails sent to either googlemail.com or gmail.com addresses will reach the user.

In February 2007 Google filed legal action against the owners of gmail.pl, a poet group known in full as Grupa Modych Artystw i Literatw abbreviated GMAiL (literally, "Group of Young Artists and Writers").[35] This lawsuit was lost, but the Web site no longer exists.[36]

On 3 May 2010, Google announced that they would start to phase out the googlemail.com domain in the UK. Existing users would get the option to switch to gmail.com, while new users would be given a gmail.com address by default.[43] This also required Android phone users to perform a factory reset (requiring a back-up to prevent data loss) to restore phone functionality.[44]

Anyway, you may try some basic fixes to resolve the problem on your own, such as make sure notification sound of each app is set to normal, DND is not enabled on the phone, you can also reset settings, or if nothing worked downgrade your phone from Android 12.

The issue was indeed with any and all apps. I really tried everything, including the power save settings, repairing apps, phone reset, wipe cache, etc. It drove me nuts as I almost always have the phone on vibrate.

This thread is a few months old, but I recently realized I'm having this problem too. I tried all the solutions here and in other places as well. I finally figured out the solution for my phone at least.

As an Android user, we think it is easy to transfer photos, music, videos, etc., between Android phone and computer. However, have you ever noticed the important contacts on Android? Have you transferred contacts from Android to computer? Do you back up Android contacts frequently? My answer is no. It is no doubt that contacts are important for us, but we always ignore to back up Android phone contacts. In this point, Google is generous enough to allow you to sync Android contacts to Google with a Google account.

In this way, you have to keep your Android phone connecting Wi-Fi. And every time, when you move contacts from phone to Google, your previous contacts backup on Google will be replaced with a new backup.

Plug Android phone with USB cable to computer. Log in your Gmail address on PC. Click "Contacts" > "More" > "Import". Click "Browse" to navigate to your synced contacts backup, click "Open" to import phone contacts to Google.

Kind tip: Gmail only allows users to import phone contacts with the VCF file or CSV. This way is capable of syncing the contacts to Google with Android phone and USB cable. But it will take you some time to operate the process on your Android phone.

If you only need to sync contacts on your Android to Google, then the above two methods are suitable for you. But if you want to sync all your contacts to Google, including those accidental deleted contacts on your phone, then you can follow method three. It is the perfect choice for you. Before you begin to transfer phone contacts to Google, you need to use a third-party tool, Google Contacts App for Android. It will achieve this goal with two steps.

After you sync phone contacts to Google account completely, you could manage the contacts on www.contacts.google.com. Definitely, if you do think Google account is a little troublesome to let you manage Android contacts, you can eaisly delete Gmail account.

In our example, this is the default Android Activity for the Android app. This is the email compose screen, when we start this example app we will just directly land in the email compose page. It will have the basic email fields like, from, to, subject, body. We can give the from email address and its respective password as input argument. This example app uses above GMail.java class to send email which comes with default settings that is configured for sending email with GMail SMTP. So if you want to use any other SMTP server, then we have to update the smtp settings there.

I have used AsyncTask, as sending email is best done in a separate thread. SendMailActivity will receive the user email arguments and pass it on to the SendMailTask to send email. SendMailTask interacts with GMail.java by passing parameters to and publishing mail sending status using ProgressDialog. ff782bc1db
