Privacy Policy for Talklio
Last updated: 2 October 2026
Talklio is an English speaking practice app for Android. It is operated by Multisoftware ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app collects, why we collect it, and who helps us process it.
If you have a question or want your account data deleted, email hello@multisoftware.dev.
1. What Talklio does
You sign in, then practice spoken English with an AI coach in real-life situations. To do that, the app uses your microphone, sends your speech to our service to turn it into text, and uses that text to reply, translate, hint, and review how you spoke.
2. Information you provide
Account. You sign in with Google. We receive your name, email address, and a Firebase user ID from Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication. We use that ID to keep your practice profile with you.
Profile. You choose a display name, a support language, an English level, practice goals, speaking difficulties, a daily time goal, and coach settings such as how much help you want.
Practice. When you speak or type, we process the words you say, the coach's replies, hints you open, and translations you request. If you create your own situation, we store its name, the roles, and what you are trying to do.
Purchases. If you buy Talklio Plus, Google Play handles the payment. We do not receive your card number. We receive your subscription status so we can turn premium on or off.
3. Voice and conversation text
The microphone is used only while you are practicing. Audio is streamed to our server, transcribed, and then discarded. We do not build a library of your voice recordings, and we do not store the audio file.
The text of what you said is used to continue the conversation, to offer a line when you are stuck, and to review the session. On your phone, that transcript and your practice stats stay in the app so you can see your progress. On our server, the line-by-line transcript is deleted after the session is analyzed. A short analysis of that session may be kept for up to 7 days. We keep a compact memory of your level, streak, and common mistake patterns so the next session can match you.
4. Analytics
The published app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how Talklio is used and to improve it. Analytics is how we see which screens people open and which practice features they use. We do not put your conversation text or your voice into analytics events.
We log events such as:
- finishing onboarding
- signing in successfully, or a failed sign-in with only the error type
- starting and ending a conversation, including the situation, the practice mode, and whether the session finished normally or hit the free daily limit
- opening the premium screen, completing a purchase (plan name only), and restoring a purchase
- the name of the screen you are on
We attach an identifier to these events: your Firebase user ID after you sign in, or a random ID stored on the device before that. Google Analytics also receives standard device and app data. That can include the Android advertising ID, an app instance ID, device model, language, app version, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
Talklio does not show ads. We do not sell your information. We do not use analytics to build an advertising profile of what you said in practice.
5. Crash reports
The app uses Firebase Crashlytics to find and fix crashes. A crash report can include a stack trace, the device model, the Android version, the app version, and the time of the crash. We also attach the same user identifier used for analytics, plus a few labels that help us debug: whether premium is active, your support language, and your speaking level.
Crash reports do not include your voice or the words of your conversation.
6. How we use information
We use this information to:
- run speaking practice, speech-to-text, hints, and translation
- remember your level, streak, and mistake patterns
- apply the free daily practice limit and Talklio Plus
- keep you signed in across reinstalls
- measure how the app is used and fix crashes and errors
- reply if you contact us
We do not use your practice conversations to advertise to you.
7. Who processes information for us
- Google. Sign-In, Firebase Authentication, Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics, and Google Play billing.
- RevenueCat. Subscription status, linked to your Firebase user ID, so premium can stay in sync.
- Cloudflare. Our app API, database, and AI features. Speech is transcribed on Cloudflare. A backup conversation model may also run there.
- OpenAI. The text of a practice session (not the audio file) may be sent through Cloudflare to OpenAI to generate the coach's reply and the session review.
On-device speech playback uses your phone's text-to-speech and does not send that audio to us.
These providers process data on our behalf and under their own privacy terms. Their servers may be outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union.
8. How long we keep it
- Voice audio: only long enough to transcribe it, then it is discarded.
- Server transcript of a session: deleted after analysis.
- Session analysis: up to 7 days.
- Account profile, streak, compact speaking memory, mistake patterns, and situations you created: kept until you ask us to delete your account, or until we no longer need them to run the app.
- Analytics and crash data: kept by Google for the period set in our Firebase project, then deleted or aggregated under Google's retention settings.
- Data stored on your phone: remains until you clear the app's storage or uninstall Talklio. Android backup may include app data if backup is turned on for your phone.
Signing out ends the session on this phone. It does not delete the profile stored for your account.
9. Your choices
- You can deny microphone access. You will not be able to speak a practice turn until you allow it. You can still type.
- You can sign out from Profile.
- You can uninstall the app to remove its local data from that phone.
- You can email hello@multisoftware.dev and ask us to delete your Talklio account and the practice data we store for it. We may keep a limited record if we must do so for security, fraud prevention, or law.
- You can limit the Android advertising ID in your phone settings. That does not turn off all analytics.
10. Children
Talklio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email hello@multisoftware.dev and we will delete it.
11. Security
We protect account access with Firebase Authentication and send practice traffic over encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
12. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and post the new version at https://multisoftware.dev/privacy. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will take any extra step the law requires.
