For our first review, Talkin Bout Tacos visited Torchy's Tacos, a nationwide chain. Through our `research, we learned that Torchy's was initially a taco truck in Texas, not a brick-and-mortar restaurant. Going in that really lowered our expectations for the quality of tacos and restaurant cleanliness. Most review blogs only focus on the food but we focus on the entire experience from start to finish. Walking into the restaurant immediately we noticed how clean it was, and there were no wait lines. The specific taco being reviewed today is the kids steak, bean, and cheese taco. We chose this taco because it is a very basic taco and we are able to add more afterward so we can get an initial taste test and then grow the palate. The taco came out very quickly, it took no longer than ten maybe fifteen minutes. Even before the initial taste test, it was clear the taco was very hot…steam coming off… and smelled very good. The first bite is a very important test, one that these tacos passed with flying colors. Let's start off with the “shell”, at Torchy's most of the tacos are soft-shelled. A soft shell is normally a very big weakness for a taco, most soft-shelled tacos get very soggy and it makes it not only impossible to hold but they end up tasting very bad. Torchy's shells didn't have that problem, they were very crispy, and tasted as if they had just been freshly made in-house. The next strength of the Tacos was the meat, it was very tender and had just the perfect amount of char on the outside. The meat was flavorful and had just the right amount of juice to give off flavor without causing the rest of the taco to be soggy or watered down. The beans on the taco just sealed the deal by adding that extra flavor and consistency most tacos lack. Overall with individual toppings chosen by the individual Torchy's tacos are a very good choice of taco. We had our doubts about it starting off as a food truck but for the very cheap amount you spend on each taco, they are beyond worth the money not only for the taste but for the enjoyable experience of dining in their restaurant.
