1. Introduction TalkNode ("the App") is developed to meet the augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) needs of individuals with speech difficulties. We place the highest importance on the privacy and security of our users' personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and how it is protected when you use the App.
While our App requests certain device permissions to function effectively as a communication tool, it does not collect, store, or sell any personal health or usage data on its own servers or to any third parties.
2. Device Permissions and Data Usage In order to perform its core functions, the App requires the following device permissions. All such data is processed instantly and solely for the stated purposes:
Microphone (Audio Recording): Microphone access is required for the App's "Whisper-to-Speech" (Voice Amplifier) feature. Your speech is processed solely for real-time transcription. Your audio recordings are never permanently stored on your device or our servers.
Camera and Photo Library: Access to the device's camera and photo gallery is requested so that caregivers or users can create custom communication cards. Photos taken or selected are stored entirely in your device's local storage and are never uploaded to any cloud servers.
Location Information: Only when the "Emergency (SOS)" button is pressed, your instant GPS coordinates are retrieved and sent to your pre-designated emergency contact. The App strictly does not track your location continuously in the background.
Send SMS: When the Emergency (SOS) feature is triggered, SMS permission is used to send an automated message containing your location and a request for help to your caregiver.
3. Third-Party Services Our App utilizes advanced artificial intelligence infrastructures (e.g., OpenAI API) to transcribe whispers and speech into text. Your audio data is transmitted to these APIs using end-to-end encryption, processed instantly, and the text result is returned to your device. These service providers do not store the transmitted audio data for advertising purposes or for training their AI models.
4. Data Retention and Analytics Usage habits within the App (such as emotion and need analytics, including which communication cards are tapped and how often) are stored strictly in your device's local storage. This data can only be viewed via the PIN-protected "Caregiver Panel" on the specific device running the App. No external party, including our development team, has access to this data.
5. Children's Privacy Our App is an accessibility tool intended for users of all ages, including children. We strictly adhere to COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) guidelines. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information or health data from children or any other users.
6. Changes to This Policy We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. In the event of significant changes, we will notify you within the App or by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
