Even if you love spectrograms as much as we do, navigating long dialogue files can be time-consuming, especially when seeking specific events in a recording. Now you can see what you hear with the new Text Navigation function. It analyzes dialogue and displays a text transcription above the spectrogram that's in sync with the corresponding audio. So you can now search for specific words in an audio file and also select and edit the recording using text.

Are you working on a single audio track with more than one speaker? Save time navigating through the file by using Multiple Speaker Detection to help find and tag the sections of speech associated with each individual voice. This is incredibly helpful especially when different speakers require different processing.

Some hardware devices monopolize the audio drivers when sending audio clips to RX via RX Connect. If you are not able to hear the audio sent to RX from your DAW with RX Connect, change the audio driver to RX Monitor in the Driver type menu.

Display cursor coordinates in status bar: When enabled, the time coordinate of the cursor is shown in the status bar at the bottom of the RX main window. The amplitude of the audio at the cursor position and the frequency at the cursor position is also shown.

Show analog waveform: When digital audio is played back, it is converted to analog. The peak values in the analog waveform can be larger than the peaks in the digital waveform, leading to clipping in the output of a digital-to-analog converter. When Show analog waveform is enabled, RX will compute an analog waveform in the background. Any peaks will be highlighted in red on top of the existing digital waveform.

Note

From what I can see the RX Connect plug-in doesn't share any metadata with the standalone app (timecode, clip names, etc), so there's not really any way for the app to know or store settings associated with particular audio segments. I believe the plug-in essentially just pushes the audio to the RX app, and then the app pushes the edited audio back to the plug-in.

But the audio that RX pushes to Avid doesn't get pushed back to RX if further editing is required. The un-edited (pre-edited?) audio gets pushed to RX. So for example if in Timeline mode I push audio from sequence to RX and make 7 repairs in RX and send it back to Avid and render and then realize that there's an 8th repair I need to make, the original audio gets pushed back to RX and I have to re-do the first 7 repairs plus the 8th. I can't pick up where I left off. I would have to do an audio mixdown of the Avid render and then push the mixdown in order to work from a piece of audio with the 7 repairs in it. Unless I'm missing something in my understanding of the workflow or some limitation because I'm in RX 30 day trial mode.

Unfortunately that sounds like expected behavior. AudioSuite plug-ins reference the original audio so that under normal circumstances you can make changes to your plug-in settings and re-render. Since RX Connect doesn't really hold any settings it's working against you in this regard.

One thing to be aware of when using the plug-ins is that some introduce latency as they buffer the audio for processing. The Guitar De-noise plug-in appears to work with no noticeable latency, but the delay in some of the other plug-ins can be significant. Most DAWs handle this latency automatically to keep multiple tracks in sync, but you may notice that the playback cursor and the sound are no longer synchronized.

One major benefit of using the standalone program is the availability of a spectral view. This window overlays your audio waveform with a graphic that shows time on the X axis, frequency on the Y axis, and intensity as a color.

Yes, Logic, Reaper, Studio One and Live all have the option to edit your audio very neatly in an external editor, Cubase should have this feature also. Or massively expand the internal editors capabilites, but to reach the level of Izotope RX is unlikley that it can be done, and would also add bloat to folks who dont need an advanced editor.

Still present are all of the tools that made RX a market leader in post-production and audio restoration, including De-noiser, De-clicker, De-crackler, De-clipper, De-reverb, Dialogue De-noiser, Spectral Repair and more.

The mere concept of this module blew my mind when I first heard about it. Anyone who has tediously searched for room tone in the handles of their audio clips to fill in the gaps in dialogue knows just how time-consuming it can be to make dialogue tracks sound fluid using cut-and-paste ambience.

The Leveler module uses a clip gain envelope to create automatic gain adjustments to your selected audio, which is once again especially useful for dialogue and voiceover tracks. Leveler does a remarkable job at smoothing out the natural dynamics in dialogue with a minimum of effort and none of the artifacts of compression.

This is an incredibly powerful tool for multi-tasking with your audio. For me, Module Chain becomes especially useful once you have a good feel for many of the different RX modules and what you can expect from each of them.

This was not quite what I was looking for either, and and I ended up switching back to importing my audio without handles. A feature like this would be much more useful if it could integrate the Ambience Match feature, automatically adding room tone to audio selections where sufficient handles are not present.

Clip-by-clip processing proved to be more clunky than anticipated. Othe ability to open each audio region as a separate tab in the standalone RX app may prove useful on certain projects, but for typical film and TV work, it seemed to add more clutter and more time to the round than was necessary.

There are some truly magical things that can be done with RX 5 to make otherwise unusable audio shine brightly enough for broadcast-ready mixes. Once again, iZotope is leading the game in offering post-production audio products that save time and money.

Here at the company where I work, we used the 2022 version of Adobe Audition and now we decided to update to the 2023 version. The problem is that the "RX 10 Connect" plugin no longer works with Audition. Before, with the 2022 version of Audition, the RX 10 Connect worked normally. Clicking on "Effects\VST3\Restoration\RX10 Connect" the plugin opens, but when I send the audio to the Izotope RX 10 the following error message appears:

"The RX standalone application could not be launched at path C:\Program Files\izotope\RX 10 Audio Editor\win32\izotope RX 10 Audio Editor.exe. Please reinstall RX to ensure that the application exists. Error code: 2"

RX comes in two distinct versions. RX 5 Audio Editor and RX 5 Advanced Audio Editor. The Advanced version is designed for professional post production audio engineers who demand the best audio processing tools and deep controls. RX 5 Audio Editor delivers the essential tools any audio editor needs to repair and enhance audio for their productions.

As an old Cakewalk and Sonar user, I am wondering if it is possible in this new Bandlab edition of the software to add an external audio editor such as Sound Forge under the "utilities" menu for Quick editing of wave files? I have searched but have not been able to find anything covering this topic.

I cannot find a section in the preferences to set the directory of an external audio editor. Reading the reference manual there is an option in Cakewalk.ini - ToolTempFileDir. But I can't seem to get it to work.

I realized this as I stumbled upon this:

I manually edited the registry, and while doing so I remembered that this is the way we were doing it back in the days aswell!

Both the RX 5 Audio Editor and RX 5 Advanced Audio Editor can be used as a standalone audio editor, as a standalone audio editor connected to your host, or as a plug-in. Supported plug-in formats include AU, VST, VST 3, AAX, RTAS, and AudioSuite.
