I would like to contribute to better understanding of (1) the process and function of organic compounds with respect to production/degradation balance, (2) frequency and activity of the process, and (3) mechanism responsible for changes in the molecular and stable isotopic compositions of organic compounds in nature, based on compound- and/or position-specific isotope analysis coupled with wide view from molecular to ecosystem levels.

環境中に存在する（特に生物がよく利用している）有機化合物が、何を起源として、どのように合成され、その後どのように分解（利用）されていくのか？ を定量的に理解するために、「安定同位体」というツールと、生理学・生化学のような「ミクロな視点」から地球・生態系のエネルギー循環を含めた「マクロな視点」をもって解明することを目指しています。
