Biological, ecological, and social systems comprise complex networks in which numerous diverse elements interact. We develop network and data analysis methods to understand such systems and apply them to biological and environmental problems, including genomes, metabolism, brain function, ecosystems, climate change, and environmental pollution. More recently, we have been particularly interested in applying the concept of adversarial attacks, originally developed in AI, to network dynamics. We study how opinion formation, cooperation, and synchronization can be steered by small, carefully designed perturbations.

生物・生態・社会システムは、多様な要素が相互作用する複雑なネットワークです。当研究室では、こうしたシステムを理解するためのネットワーク・データ解析手法を開発し、ゲノム、代謝、脳、生態系、気候変動、環境汚染といった生物・環境分野の課題に応用してきました。最近は特に、AIで発展した敵対的攻撃の概念をネットワーク上のダイナミクスに応用することに関心を持ち、意見形成、協力、同期といった現象が、巧妙に設計された小さな摂動によってどのように誘導できるかを研究しています。

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems, including large language models (LLMs), are increasingly deployed in high-stakes domains such as medical diagnostics, clinical decision support, and robotics, where they make decisions that affect people. However, these systems can be fooled by adversarial attacks, produce harmful outputs, and show biased moral judgments. We develop and apply computational methods to evaluate the reliability, safety, and ethics of AI systems and to enhance their robustness. Examples include benchmarking the safety of LLMs, analyzing their moral decision-making at scale, and probing the vulnerability of medical imaging AI, with the aim of enabling trustworthy deployment in society.

大規模言語モデル（LLM）をはじめとするAIシステムは、医療診断や臨床意思決定支援、ロボット制御など、人に影響する場面での活用が急速に進んでいます。一方で、敵対的攻撃による誤動作、有害な出力、道徳的判断の偏りといった課題が指摘されています。当研究室では、LLMの安全性ベンチマーク、道徳的意思決定の大規模解析、医用画像AIの脆弱性評価などを通じて、AIの信頼性・安全性・倫理性を評価し、堅牢化するための計算手法の開発と応用に取り組んでいます。
