Taishokan・VILLA TAISHOKAN
We are excited to announce the opening of our family home in Chigasaki City Nakakaigan as a fully-rented guesthouse, named Taishokan, starting January 1, 2024. This residence, initiated by the owner's grandfather, Taizo Hayashi, as a seaside villa for his wife during the Taisho era, has been passed down through generations to his son Yukimasa, granddaughter Misa, and great-grandson Shun.
The main house, erected on January 17, 1923, celebrated its centennial in 2023. Although originally built in the Taisho era, it has undergone reinforcement and meticulous renovation to restore its original charm over time. With the dedicated work of many craftsmen over a year, the space now reflects a Taisho-era ambiance as if it were a journey back in time.
The concept is "In'ei Reisan" or "Appreciation of Light and Shadow."
We invite you to experience the light, air, and darkness of the Taisho era through our redesign efforts. Elements such as the entrance, fixtures, and glass have aged, and there may be some minor issues. The low ceiling and occasionally challenging sliding doors are aspects of the passage of time, and we appreciate your understanding.
The revival of this traditional Japanese house and a lifestyle in harmony with nature embodies the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) principle of "achieving a sustainable society." This aligns with Taishokan's goal of fostering local culture and reflects its dedication to the realization of a sustainable society.
Adjacent to Taishokan is the art gallery CREATIVE SPACE HAYASHI, where you can explore contemporary works by artists. Taishokan itself hosts numerous exhibitions, offering a glimpse into the sophisticated Taisho era that seamlessly integrated art into daily life. Many exhibited works are available for purchase, and you can access information about the artists through QR codes within the gallery. Feel free to inquire about viewing gallery exhibits outside regular hours.
Situated along the road to Chigasaki's coastline, Taishokan offers a view of an unchanged garden with pine trees and sand, providing a leisurely and nostalgic experience reminiscent of the Taisho era.
Origin and Logo of Taishokan
The concept for the symbolic twin "pine" trees, representing Taishokan, was designed by Rui, the great-grandson of Taizo, and New York-based artist RUBY SILVIOUS.
