History of Taishokan
It began as a villa near the sea built by the owner's grandfather Taizo Hayashi for his wife in the Taisho era, and was passed down to his son Yukimasa, granddaughter Misa, and great-grandson Shun Kunori.
Once you step inside the house you will see a photo of the house taken on January 17th., 1923 when its construction started. Taizo Hayashi, the owner of the house, graduated from Waseda University, and during the Taisho era (1912-1926), he was the manager of the Yokohama branch of Teikoku Fire Insurance Company (the predecessor of Nipponkoa Insurance Company), of which Eiichi Shibusawa was a shareholder.
Not only those related to Teikoku Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. but also Shinpei Goto (known as a doctor, president of Manchuria Railway, and a politician) visited the house.
Until now, many artists, musicians, actors and others visited the art gallery and stayed at the TAISHOKAN- not only from Japan but also from all around the world.
