Teacher Artist In Residence (TAIR) Mallacoota is an annual artist in residence program for Visual Arts teachers. TAIR Mallacoota has been developed in recognition of Visual Arts teachers as both artists and teachers and aims to provide Australian Visual Arts teachers with an opportunity to further their own artistic practice in a beautiful, peaceful environment.
TAIR Mallacoota is developed by Artist-Teacher Jade Oakley and Educator / Publisher Kristen Harrison in partnership with the Mallacoota Arts Council and MA Space. This initiative is generously supported by Professor Leonard Harrison.
TAIR Mallacoota 2026 is open to all Visual Arts Teachers who are currently teaching in a NSW school. Individual teachers can apply for a solo residency or a group of up to 4 teachers can apply to attend the residency together.
If applying for a solo residency artists have the option to bring their family to stay with them while they complete the residency.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel that includes members of the Mallacoota Arts Council Curatorial Committee and Kristen Harrison.
The first TAIR Artist in Residence was Kim Marcovitch.
"The TAIR Residency gave me the kickstart I needed to get my own art making practice going again. I have been teaching Visual Arts for 20 years now and I have not had the opportunity to engage in my own art practice. The Mallacoota art community was supportive, kind and encouraging in helping me pursue my artistic goals."

TAIR Mallacoota 2026 will be held during the NSW winter school holidays.
In 2026 the residency will be available from 4th - 18th July and will be open to all Visual Arts Teachers in NSW.
Mallacoota is located on the boarder of NSW and Victoria, therefore TAIR Mallacoota will alternate between inviting teachers to participate from NSW and Victoria.
In 2027 the residency will be available from 26th June - 10th July and will be open to all Visual Arts Teachers in Victoria.
Accommodation for TAIR Mallacoota has been generously donated by local resident, Professor Leonard Harrison. The three-bedroom, lakefront house is modern and beautifully appointed with two queen beds, two bunk beds and a large deck overlooking the lake. The house is currently immaculately presented as a holiday rental and can be viewed here.
The MA Space is a community gallery managed by the Mallacoota Arts Council. MA Space has a large gallery that can be used for studio space, a printmaking room with printing press, sculpture studio and commercial kitchen, with plans to add a kiln and pottery shed next year. The Mallacoota Art Space will be made available exclusively for TAIR Mallacoota during the residency.
The artist is asked to provide an artist talk and/or one small community art workshop, however, TAIR Mallacoota is primarily focussed on Visual Arts Teachers pursuing their own artistic practice.
There is no other expectation of community engagement, however the friendly Mallacoota community would enjoy interacting with the visiting artist as suits the artist.
The successful applicant (s) will pay for the cleaning of the accommodation and contribute to the MA Space running costs.
The total cost to participants will be $500.
Accommodation is free.
