1. Who this covers
This policy explains how Tailgate ("we," "us," "the app") handles information for anyone who creates an account. Tailgate is a college football prediction and discussion app — polls, confidence picks, hot takes, and private groups — built by an independent developer, not by any school, conference, or the NCAA.
By using Tailgate, you're agreeing to how information is handled as described here. If something here doesn't sit right with you, the fastest path is tailgatesportsapp@gmail.com — a real person reads that inbox.
2. What we collect
Email & password — signing you in. Your password is hashed; nobody at Tailgate can read it. (linked to you)
Username, display name, team, avatar — how other users see you across polls, picks, and groups. (linked to you)
Polls, votes, picks, comments, takes — the actual content of the app. (linked to you)
Group membership & messages — private leagues you join or create with friends. (linked to you)
Football IQ, streaks, rank — computed automatically from your activity, never entered by hand. (linked to you)
Push notification token — an anonymous device identifier Apple issues so we can deliver a notification. Only stored if you enable notifications. (linked to you)
Location, contacts, camera — not collected. Tailgate never asks for these and has no code path that reads them.
Advertising or tracking identifiers — not collected. No ad network, analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking is built into Tailgate.
Nearly everything above exists because Tailgate is a social app — your username, team, picks, and comments are meant to be visible to other users. That's the product, not a side effect.
3. How it's used
Running the core features: polls, confidence picks, leaderboards, groups, notifications.
Calculating your Football IQ, level, streaks, and rank from your own activity.
Keeping voting fair — e.g. one vote per poll, a poll's own creator can't cast the deciding vote on it.
Sending push notifications for things you've opted into, like a poll closing or a reply to your comment.
Responding when you email us with a question, report, or deletion request.
We do not use your data to build an advertising profile, and we do not sell it. There's nothing to opt out of on that front — it doesn't happen in the first place.
4. Who we share it with
Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage. Effectively everything you enter into the app passes through Supabase's infrastructure to reach us.
Apple (APNs) — delivers push notifications. Apple receives only your device's push token, never the content of your account.
CollegeFootballData.com — a one-way data source for schedules, scores, and rankings. We pull public game data from it; we never send it anything about you.
We'd only disclose account information beyond this list if legally required to, or to investigate a safety report involving your account.
5. Deleting your account
Profile → Delete Account removes your login, profile, votes, picks, and IQ history immediately and permanently. There's no waiting period and no need to email anyone first.
One nuance worth knowing: polls, comments, and hot takes you've posted publicly can stay up after you leave, since other people have voted on or replied to them — they just switch to showing a deleted user instead of your name. Nothing about them is still linked back to your account.

6. Security
Passwords are hashed, never stored or visible in plain text. Data moving between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. No system is unbreakable, but we don't take shortcuts most attackers look for.
7. Children's privacy
Tailgate isn't directed at children and isn't intended for anyone under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from a child under 13; if we learn that's happened, we'll delete that account.
8. Where data lives
Our infrastructure providers may process and store data outside the country you live in, including in the United States. Using Tailgate means you're okay with your information being handled in those locations under this policy.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the effective date above. Using Tailgate after a change means you're accepting the updated version.
