Use the custom actions based on scripts or batch files. Silent install builder supports windows batch files (bat, cmd), windows scripts (vbs, js), and Powershell (ps1). Include directories with dependency files.

I'm trying to setup Labview 2021 to deploy out silently to multiple computers. I've installed it on a computer and run the command 'nipkg.exe download --all-deps --destination-dir="C:\LVFeeds" ni-labview-2021-core-en'. This has copied all the relevant feeds to a folder I've called 'LVFeeds' on the C drive. I've copied this folder off to a network share where I also have a copy of the NI Package Manager v21.

@andymason Have you made this install available in Self Service? In my initial test, the package installer worked fine but seemed to take quite a bit longer than I'm used to with the Installbuilder app install. By the time SS downloads the pkg and goes through the install, I feel like I'd need to proactively warn the users that it's going to take a while so they don't get impatient & kill it.

These types of deployment tools allow you to integrate your application packages, and even better if your packages support silent install parameters since the applications will get installed silently in the background without any end-user interaction.

We're seeing that more Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) tend to deliver their software products in MSI format. This format provides a standard foundation for installing and uninstalling software and also supports silent install switches.

The logic behind repackaging is that you capture all of the changes made to the system (files and registries) of the original installer (e.g. EXE without silent switches) by using a monitor tool (the repackager). Then, you build all the captured resources into an MSI.

edit: I looked at the instructions that you followed, and I don't see the custom action for launching the application being scheduled in any sequence. It is only triggered from a UI action (clicking the Finish button). This explains why it is never executed during a silent install.

You can use the Oracle Universal Installer's silent installation mode to bypass the graphical user interface and supply the necessary information in a response file. This method is most useful when installing the same product multiple times on multiple hosts. By using a response file, you can automate the installation of a product for which you know the installation parameters.

For information about silent installation and deinstallation and response files, refer to "Silent Oracle Fusion Middleware Installation and Deinstallation" in the Oracle Fusion Middleware Installation Planning Guide.

Before doing a silent installation, you must provide information specific to your installation in a response file. A response file is a specification file containing information you normally fetch through the Oracle Universal Installer user interface during an interactive installation session. Each answer is stored as a value for a variable identified in the response file. For example, values for Oracle home or installation type can be set automatically within the response file. Response files are text files that you can create or edit in any text editor.

Use this response file template to install but not configure the software on your system. After doing so, you should run a silent configuration using the configure_only.rsp template to configure the components.

Silent Install Builder creates silent setup packages and helps users easily install multiple programs just in one click. Silent Install Builder provides a solution that allows you to concurrently install a range of applications through several devices. In a very short period of time, you can create the silent setup packages using this tool. In order to install these applications, simply run the package. Programs will be installed automatically in background mode (silently). Silent Install Builder has a user-friendly graphical user interface and is simple to use.

We fund the Npcap project by selling Npcap OEM. This special version of Npcap includes enterprise features such as the silent installer and commercial support as well as special license rights allowing customers to redistribute Npcap with their products or to install it on more systems within their organization with easy enterprise deployment. The Npcap free license only allows five installs (with a few exceptions) and does not allow for any redistribution. We offer two commercial license types:

Npcap OEM Redistribution License: The redistribution license is for companies that wish to distribute Npcap OEM within their products (the free Npcap edition does not allow this). Licensees generally use the Npcap OEM silent installer, ensuring a seamless experience for end users. Licensees may choose between a perpetual unlimited license or an annual term license, along with options for commercial support and updates. [Redistribution license details]

Npcap OEM Internal-Use License: The corporate internal license is for organizations that wish to use Npcap OEM internally, without redistribution outside their organization. This allows them to bypass the 5-system usage cap of the Npcap free edition. It includes commercial support and update options, and provides the extra Npcap OEM features such as the silent installer for enterprise-wide deployment. [Internal-use license details]

The problem with installing it under a user account in an enterprise / other setting would be that the user accounts in the organization may not have administrative permissions to perform the installation. The only solution I have found to this is insecure: deploying the program to run under the current user, and starting the process using credentials of the local administrator account -- which would require credentials to be plain-text or otherwise decryptable in a script file or in the system memory. Performing the installation under the system is the only means by which the installation can be performed securely when a user account does not have permission to perform the installation when attempting to perform some means of silent/automated installation.

There are other failings with the silent installation method, as well, such as prompting for the addition of firewall rules and adding the automatically generated self-signed security certificate. I also was unable to get the "--prefix" option working in order to set the installation directory. These prompts should never be present in a silent installer. be457b7860
