1. Introduction
Welcome to Gooddays App ("we," "us," "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application (the "App").
Our core privacy principle is simple: your data is yours. The App is designed to be a private, offline-first journal. The vast majority of your data is stored exclusively on your device. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect personally identifiable information like your name, email address, or location.
This policy will describe the limited circumstances under which data leaves your device and what happens to it.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We want to be upfront about what we don't do. We do not collect, store, or have access to:
Personally Identifiable Information (PII): We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, age, or any other information that directly identifies you.
User Accounts: The App works without a user account. All your data is tied to the installation on your device, not to an online profile.
Location Data: The App does not track or request your location.
Contacts or Photos: The App does not access your device's contacts, photos, or other personal files, except for audio files you may have in a designated meditation folder or data you explicitly choose to import/export.
3. Information You Provide and How It Is Used
The information you enter into the App is processed in two primary ways: stored locally on your device or temporarily sent to generate AI-powered insights.
A. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
All of your journal entries and related data are stored in a private, local database on your device. We do not have access to this information. This locally stored data includes:
Daily Entries: Your daily wellbeing score and the scores for the six core needs.
Memos and Thoughts: Any text you write in the daily memo/thoughts section.
Life Vision and Objectives: Your life vision statement and the objectives you create, edit, and track.
Statistical Data: Historical data, correlations, and trends calculated from your entries.
Meditation Data: A list of your meditation files and playback logs.
Settings and Preferences: Your chosen theme, language, and other app settings.
This data remains on your device unless you choose to use features that explicitly move or share it, such as the Data Export or PDF Generation features (see Section 6).
B. Data Processed for AI Features (Premium)
To provide our premium AI-powered features, such as the AI Companion and Generate Meditation, we need to send some of your anonymized data to third-party services.
What Data is Sent: When you use an AI feature, a prompt is constructed using a combination of your recent, anonymized data. This may include:
Your daily score and six needs scores.
Your written thoughts for the day.
Your life vision statement.
Your active objectives.
Correlations calculated between your scores and objectives.
Any specific instructions you provide (e.g., for meditation generation).
Purpose: This data is sent for the sole purpose of generating a response for you, such as a daily insight, a chat response, or a guided meditation script.
Anonymity: The data sent to these services is not linked to you, your device, or any personally identifiable information.
Data Retention: We have a strict non-retention policy. The data sent to our AI service providers is used only to generate the response and is not stored or retained by them or by us after the response is sent back to your device.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following trusted third-party services to enable specific functionalities. We do not share your data with them beyond what is necessary for their function, as described below.
Google Generative AI (Gemini API): Used for the AI Companion feature to generate daily insights and chat responses. We send anonymized journal data as described in Section 3B. We encourage you to review Google's Privacy Policy to understand how they handle data processed by their services.
Google Cloud Functions: Used for the Generate Meditation feature. We send an anonymized, detailed prompt to this service to create a custom meditation audio file. This service also does not retain your data post-generation.
Google Play Billing: For users who subscribe to our premium features, all payment and subscription management is handled directly and securely by Google. We do not receive or store your payment information, such as credit card details. You can review Google Payments Privacy Policy for more information.
We do not use any third-party analytics or advertising services that track your behavior across apps.
5. Data Security
We take the security of your information seriously.
Local Data: Since your data is stored on your device, its security is linked to the security of your device itself. We recommend using a passcode, biometrics, and other security features available on your device to protect your information.
Data in Transit: All data sent to our AI service providers is encrypted using industry-standard Transport Layer Security (TLS) to protect it during transmission.
6. Your Rights and Data Control
You have complete control over the data you generate in the App.
Access, Edit, and Delete: You can view, edit, and delete any of your entries, objectives, or your life vision directly within the App at any time.
Export/Import: Export your entire journal database to a file or import a previously exported database. You are responsible for the security of your exported data file.
PDF Generation: Generate a PDF report of your data. This file is created locally on your device and can be saved or shared at your discretion.
Delete All Data: Permanently delete all your data using the "Delete All Data" option in settings or by uninstalling the App. This action is irreversible.
7. Permissions
Our App requests certain permissions to function correctly. Here is why we need them:
Storage Access (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ_MEDIA_AUDIO): This permission is required for the Meditations feature to find and play audio files from your device's storage. It is also needed for the Data Import feature.
Storage Access (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on older Android versions): This permission is required on older Android versions to enable the Data Export and PDF Generation features to save files to your device's public storage.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS on Android 13+): This permission is required to send you the daily reminder to record your entry, if you choose to enable it in the settings.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with information without parental consent, we will take steps to remove that information.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
