I'm recruiting
highly motivated MASc (Domestic) and PhD (Domestic & International) students for Fall 2027.
Funding is available for qualified students,
with additional opportunities through university and external scholarships.
We develop safe, adaptive, and interactive robots with enhanced physical intelligence through soft material structures, sensing and actuation, advanced fabrication, and learning from physical interaction.
Prospective students may work on topics including:
Soft-rigid hybrid robotic systems
Mechanically programmable robotic structures
Artificial sensing skin
Artificial muscles
Advanced fabrication for robotic structures
Embodied learning-based robot control
Human-supportive robotic applications
Students with backgrounds in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, electrical engineering, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Experience in robotics, mechanical design, fabrication, electronics, embedded systems, control, or machine learning is beneficial but not required.
How to apply
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Taekyoung Kim (iakd1036@gmail.com or taekyoung.kim@northwestern.edu) before submitting a formal application to TMU (https://www.torontomu.ca/graduate/future-students/application-dates/).
