The Yorba Linda Branch of the Teens Against E-waste is located in Yorba Linda, California.
Our goal is to spread awareness of e-waste and to promote others to recycle their electronic waste. Currently, we are participating in the 1MB Campaign, which is a joint effort to collect 1 million batteries.
E-waste is an unprecedented issue in the world today. According to The World Counts, we generate about, "50 million tons of e-waste every year." That's the equivalent of throwing out 1000 laptops every second. And this number is only growing as more people use electronics day by day. Furthermore, unlike plastic bottles or straws, e-waste also contains extremely toxic chemicals like lead, cadmium, and mercury which can seep into the soil and make the land infertile and harmful to people living near it. Furthermore, much of this waste lands up in our trash bags and eventually into landfills which puts waste collectors at higher risk for damaged lungs, livers, kidneys, and death.

"We had to pay for this.” That’s what Tino, a general manager of a senior apartment said. Tino regularly uses batteries for hearing aids, smoke detectors, and other electronics. However, he has no place to throw away his used batteries and has to pay others to take his batteries. We heard about this and contacted him to help him recycle his batteries. When we came, Tino was happy because he could throw away his batteries, and I was happy because I was able to help Tino recycle his batteries and make our environment a cleaner place.
