Mission of the project

The University Heights Branch of Teens Against E-waste is in Fullerton, California. The branch is named after the University Heights community, where it was founded. Centrally located among several elementary schools, middle schools, high schools & colleges, it opens a unique opportunity to raise awareness among the youth about e-waste. In the process, engage the young minds in correctly disposing of e-waste and spread the knowledge to create a cleaner environment for future generations.

Electronic waste problems and solutions

Recycling your batteries prevent them from ending up in landfills, which are highly detrimental to the environment due to the potential release of hazardous chemicals like battery acid. Such chemicals can infiltrate soil, water sources, and even the air, posing significant risks to ecosystems, animals, and human health. Recycling batteries can reclaim valuable materials like copper and aluminum for continuous reuse, significantly reducing resource consumption. However, finding the right recycling options can be challenging. If you're unsure where to dispose of your batteries, please feel free to contact TAE branches for help.

Our commitment to the environment at the University Heights Branch continues to thrive as we expand our collection efforts to nearby businesses. Our youngest advocate starting from elementary to High school students, evangelizes to the business of the hazardous effects of improper battery disposal, inspiring others to take action toward a cleaner and greener world. As a result of his passionate advocacy and reaching out to many businesses, we have successfully implemented monthly collection boxes at three strategic locations, collecting hazardous batteries for safe and responsible recycling.

But our efforts continue beyond there. We are determined to increase waste diversion and promote sustainable practices in every way possible. For example, this March, we are extending our battery collection to include other types of waste from neighboring businesses, ensuring that more waste is diverted from landfills and safely disposed of in recycling centers.

Our community, local businesses, and residents have been invaluable partners in this journey, and we are proud to report that we have collected a remarkable 18528 batteries to date. We are grateful for the ongoing support, and we firmly believe that working together can significantly impact our environment. So, let's continue to strive for a cleaner, greener world for all.
