This project was launched by the National Centre of Special Education (NCSE) in 2017. After one year of research and raising funds we started making books. Initially our volunteers were people who cared for children with VI. In 2020 we searched for new volunteers who could sew. Not only are they now very skilled at making tactile books, they also care about children with VI and their education.
In summer 2022 we moved from NCSE to our own premises. We have more space and flexibility to hold workshops hold more often, so we hope to make more books more quickly.
We have a separate room to be our library. This will be a welcoming space with carpet and a sofa and fabric bookshelves. It will be visually uncluttered but will have tactile cues for the children to follow to aid their mobility.
July 2022 we presented a paper and spoke at the International Association of Special Education Conference in HCMC.
