Amethyst Michelle's "Nicholas Sparks" Music Video
Scriptwriting:
To tell the visual story of the song in question, my team and I first needed a script. Much of what was featured in the script came from the artist herself, so I made sure to incorporate the story she wanted, listening to the song multiple times to get a mental image for each part of the song, and my team and I also wanted the artist to be in the video, so balancing between her and the story told in the song was crucial when writing the script.
Photography:
Before we began filming, we started with principle photography. We scouted out the locations and photographed the various spots that we had in mind. These photographs were then used as inspiration when writing scenes.
Videography:
Once the script was finalized, we began filming the filming process. We utilized a Black Magic camera to capture the footage. The filming process itself took several weeks. We also utilized a combination of techniques, such as camera movement and composition, to bring the script to life visually.
Post-Production:
After filming, the project moved into post-production. This mainly took place in Adobe Premiere Pro as I utilized its various color-grading, and editing effects to create the final product.
AVL (Audio, Video, and Lighting):
Luckily audio wasn't much of a worry, as the only audio needed was the song itself, which was added later in-post. Lighting was definitely crucial to this project, and as we mostly filmed outdoors, we had to keep track of daylight hours as well as any lighting we needed for the night shoots. The lighting was then tweaked in-post.
Mode 88's "Mars Iron" Music Video
Scriptwriting:
In this case, the story was already told in the song itself. All I had to do was give the song a face by writing out the visuals.
Videography:
This video was purely stop-motion animation, so much of the filming and effects were done in-camera. For this, I used an iPhone 11 and the Stop Motion Studio app.
Post-Production:
After filming was complete, I transferred each segment into Adobe Premiere Pro, where I color-graded and added graphics.
AVL (Audio, Visual, and Lighting):
In this case, the only audio needed for this project was the song itself, which was added in the editing process. For lighting, I used a suspended lighting rig with detachable LED lights that were moved and angled for certain shots. Color grading was then achieved in-post.
Photography:
For the photoshoots with Amethyst, I used a Canon Rebel T5 to capture the images, utilizing its various lighting settings, experimenting with angles, and giving Amethyst directions when posing her.
Editing:
When it came time to edit and tidy up the photos, I used both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom. In Photoshop, I used the spot healing tool to remove any distracting background items and any dust particles that ended up on the lens during the shoots. Afterward, I transferred the photos to Lightroom, where I did color-grading, adjusted lighting, and added and tweaked any filters I added to certain photos.
