1. Overview
TabLabel ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that allows users to rename browser tabs, organize them into color-coded groups, and import/export labels for backup or transfer.
2. Data We Store Locally
The following data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API and never transmitted to our servers:
Tab labels: Custom names you assign to tabs
Tab URLs: Either the exact page URL or the domain URL (based on your preference), used solely to match saved labels to tabs
Group colors: Your chosen color assignments for tab groups
License status: A boolean flag (isPro) and your license key string
We do not operate servers and do not have access to this data.
3. License Verification (Third Party)
If you purchase a Pro license, your license key is sent to Gumroad (https://api.gumroad.com) solely to verify your purchase. TabLabel does not store or log this communication beyond saving the license key locally upon successful activation. Please refer to Gumroad's Privacy Policy for how they handle your data.
4. What We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, transmit, or store:
Personally identifiable information (name, email, address)
Browsing history
Website content (text, images, videos)
Financial or payment information
Location data
Health information
Authentication credentials
5. Data Retention & Deletion
All data remains on your device until you:
Manually delete individual labels or clear all data via the extension
Uninstall the extension, which removes all stored data
Use the built-in Export feature to back up your data before deletion
6. Your Rights
You may export your labels at any time using the Export button in the extension. You may delete labels individually or in bulk. Because all data is local, uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all associated data.
7. Permissions
The extension requires the following permissions to function:
storage — to save your tab labels and settings locally on your device
tabs — to read tab information and manage tab groups
activeTab — to interact with the currently active tab
scripting — to apply custom labels to tab titles on page load
tabGroups — to integrate with Chrome's native tab group feature
<all_urls> — to apply labels across all websites you visit
