Troop 2485 is chartered by the Home of Christ in Cupertino (HOC5). Our mission is to:
REACH young people,
CONNECT them with other Christians,
EQUIP them to make ethical and moral choices guided by the Scout Oath and Law.
For years, we have seen how this vision builds strong leaders and transforms families of troop 485. We strive to continue this legacy with our scouts and their families today.
To help girls grow into women of character, we follow these core principles:
Principle 1: Mentorship
Leading by example is key. We encourage mentorship at all levels: adult leaders mentoring scouts, senior scouts guiding junior scouts, and experienced adult leaders supporting newer ones. This cycle of mentorship encourages growth.
Principle 2: Patrol Method
A patrol is a scout-led team where girls learn skills, practice leadership, and develop life-long friendships. It is the heart of scouting and a place to grow together.
Principle 3: Scout-led Excellence
True excellence comes from within. In troop 2485, scouts take the lead. Adults provide guidance, but scouts are encouraged to own their troop, learn through trial and error, and build resilience by fixing mistakes. This approach ensures leadership development and a sense of ownership for every scout.
Principle 4: Parent-led Safety
The role of adult leaders is to ensure a secure environment where scouts can learn and thrive. Parents play a key part by fostering a reasonably safe setting for activities and using sound judgment to address potential risks scouts may not recognize. Once safety measures are in place, adults step back, allowing scouts the freedom to explore, face challenges, and grow through their successes and setbacks—gaining invaluable life lessons along the way.
