Current research interests

I'm principally a petrologist, but frequently integrate mineralogy, electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and geology into my work.

  • Micro- and nano-meter scale inclusion study

  • Phase transformation process of minerals

  • High- and ultrahigh-pressure (HP–UHP) metamorphism at plate convergent margins

  • Exhumation process of HP–UHP metamorphic rocks

Micro- and nano-meter scale inclusion study

Through integrated micro-Raman analyses and nano-observation techniques employing a focused ion beam (FIB) system and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), I'm investigating the petrological/mineralogical characteristics of minuscule inclusions and their host minerals in metamorphic rocks worldwide (cf. Taguchi et al., 2021 EPSL; Taguchi et al., 2019b JMG).

HP–UHP metamorphism at plate convergent margins

In order to decipher the tectono-metamorphic evolution at ancient subduction and collision zones worldwide, I examine the metamorphic character of HP-UHP rocks by integrating conventional petrological approaches with Raman geothermobarometric studies. Principally I have performed laboratory-based investigations on high-pressure type metamorphic rocks from the southwest Japan (Sanbagawa belt), eastern China (Sulu UHP terrane), and others (cf. Taguchi et al., 2019a JMG; Taguchi et al., 2016 JMG).
