We don't offer tiered pricing based on speeds at this time. Customers automatically receive the best speeds available from the Home Internet service at their home address. As better speeds are available, customers will automatically experience them, at no additional cost. During congestion, Home Internet customers may notice speeds lower than customers using other T-Mobile services due to data prioritization.

While utilizing 2G (128kbps) speeds, you can access any page in the metrobyt-mobile.com or t-mobile.com domains without a negative impact to your data limit. You will still be able to access these sites even with reduced speeds. Other use will be reduced to 2G (128kbps) speeds.

T-Mobile Internet Lite speeds will vary by location, and will vary more than the unlimited 5G Home Internet Plan, but areas that show strong 5G mobile wireless coverage are more likely to see better Internet Lite speeds. Internet Lite is delivered via both our 4G LTE and 5G cellular networks and speeds vary due to factors affecting cellular networks.

After a few months I started noticing the slowdowns in certain hours of the day, because the home internet is the lowest priority on their network. I suspect this is due to the rapid growth of this service. It was actually pretty much fine throughout the day, but after work (around 5-9pm) there was really noticeable impacts. Not every day, but some days it was like... flashbacks to early 2000's online streaming video quality, where you're trying to watch Netflix and it's buffering forever, super blocky/pixelated, you run a speed test and the test literally can't even complete the upload portion of it because the response is so slow. This goes on for a few hours every once in a while (again, not every day, not even once a week necessarily, but it has come up several times) and then back to normal.

I'd had it in the back of my mind that, while not ideal, I like the price, like the competition for Comcast, and I was hoping to hold on in the hope that either A) tmobile would add capacity/improve/make home internet a higher priority, or B) comcast would start feeling the crunch and offer genuine permanent deals to compete.

So while I was hanging on & hoping for improvement, suddenly my wife started having trouble connecting to work VPN (it had been working fine for months so this was a new problem when nothing on our side changed), we troubleshot, and ended up coming to the conclusion that it may be the Tmobile home internet service. I gave Comcast a call, signed back up, switched over, and swapped the Tmobile modem for my cable modem (same router with both setups, same config otherwise) and instantly the connection to work VPN for my wife started working again.

I have to say, it's pretty refreshing being back on a "normal" internet connection, no real issues with speed, performance doesn't suck at certain times of day, gaming works fine again, no issues with anyone being able to get and stay on work VPN's... as much as I want to support change/competition, and as much as I love the low price, the price savings going to 5G home internet isn't really worth it for all you lose on T-mobile today. I hope that changes and look forward to revisiting in a year or 2.

I had a pretty horrible experience getting Comcast back up, a 90 minute phone call with them trying to upsell me on LAND LINES (LOL!), a home security system, etc. There's a LOT to hate about Comcast, like the ridiculous sales stuff you have to deal with, temporary 12-24 month pricing (hoping you forget so your bill doubles by surprise!), contracts on some plans, fees, usage limits (1.2TB here) unless you pay like $30 a month or $10/mo to rent their modem. But at the end of it, even at full price, I think it's a small price to pay for good, reliable, consistent home internet. My 2 cents.

We've been aware of T-Mobile's desire to use 5G to break into the home internet game for quite some time. But now that the company's home broadband offering is established, what does that mean for you? Does 5G home internet offer something new? Is T-Mobile Home Internet a viable option to replace your current ISP?

Definitely, but it's still not a slam dunk. Although T-Mobile Home Internet is currently available to over 50 million homes across the US, many locations and addresses can't get it. While 5G is the marquee player on this bill, T-Mobile relies on 4G LTE to help expand its home internet service area. This means that of the 5G home internet providers, T-Mobile will offer the slowest speeds on average. But let's dig into the details.

When discussing any ISP, it's always good to begin by answering the fundamental question: Can I get this service? T-Mobile Home Internet is available to over 50 million households across the country. That makes it the country's most widely available 5G home internet service. By comparison, Verizon's 5G Home Internet service has rolled out in approximately 900 markets but is available to around 40 million homes. In the meantime, T-Mobile is open to signups in over 600 cities but more households, many within rural areas. ff782bc1db
