Favorite Quote: "Nothing makes you appreciate something quite like thinking you are never going to have it again. When I almost had running taken away, it was like oh no, I get to do this.  Despite all the pressure, at its core that's what it's about.  I choose to do this." - Molly Seidel

Advice to team members: Run for yourself, and the memories you'll share with your teammates who hopefully end up as lifelong friends. Compete and train with all the passion you have for your community, your family, and this sport: it will take you places.  I love the mindset of many of the athletes on this team; we finish a race, maybe run a PR, or just have a really good day, and immediately think about tackling the next challenge.  We are always thinking about what we can do to become the best version of ourselves.  We are constantly improving, and even professional runners claim they are a work in progress just like us.  Take this time to build: connections, a home away from home, and upon yourself.

Olivia Kardos (2021)

Personal Bests:  400: 1:01.3, 600: 1:42.29, 800: 2:20.0, 1 mile: 5:39.07, 5k: 21:06

Favorite Course: Twilight and Algonquin!

Favorite Quote: "When your legs can't run anymore, run with your heart."

Advice to Team Members: Listen to your body, trust your coach, and open yourself to challenge. I was welcomed into the XC family my sophomore year of high school and everyone on the team the prior year seemed to have more experience with workouts, leaving me to feel behind. However, as I started to make friends and work out my own challenges with the coaches, I was able to push myself harder and get closer to my personal goals. Please PLEASE enjoy your time here; the memories are priceless and the friends you make will be for life! (Shout out to fellow senior Hayley who I met junior year at XC!) This team has a strong bond, so stick with the family and the next four years of high school will be the best four years!

Caroline Freeman (2021)

Personal Bests:  5k: 22:05     2-mile: 13:20    1-mile: 6:20    800m: 2:53

Favorite Course: Algonquin

Favorite Quote: “Gotta go, Gotta go” ~ Patrick Galvin

Advice to team members: Make sure to enjoy the moments that you spend at cross country because they go by quickly. These last four years have flown by, but I learned a lot about myself. Don’t expect to get better within a day or week, be patient and know that the progress will be shown. Keep working hard and never give up when the going gets tough, those are the moments that you really show improvements! Don’t be afraid to talk to people, these people will become your best friends and cheer you on no matter what. Just enjoy the sport (of running) and have fun, don’t put too much pressure on yourself!

Emma Belfer (2021)

Personal Bests: 1mile: 6:57    2mile: 15:38     5k: 24:08

Favorite Course: Twilight

Favorite Quote: "Speed. I am speed." -Lightning McQueen

Advice to team members: Be proud of your small achievements. XC is a difficult sport that requires self discipline and grit. Every little success is worth noting on the journey of improvement.

Anna Long (2020)

Personal Bests: 800m: 2:17.43, 1mile: 5:33, 2mile: 12:14, 5k: 20:1

Favorite Course: Twilight!

Favorite Quote: "Positive vibes, negative splits"

Advice to team members: Do not underestimate the power of hard work and delayed gratification.  Put in the work and the results will come.  Learn to push yourself to discomfort and pain (but not bad pain), listen to your body.  Lastly, just have a good time. The friendships I've made through this sport are like no other so just enjoy it!

Amanda Ares (2020)

Personal Bests: 1mile: 6:28, 5k: 23:19

Favorite Quote: "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" -Steve Prefontaine

Advice to team members: Push yourself in every workout, but do not forgot to have fun on the easy days. You do not want to make yourself exhausted and not love the sport. Do what makes you feel good and you will love what you do and pursuing your goals will never seem like a chore.

Kathleen Ely (2020)

Personal Best: 5K: 21:47

Favorite Course: Wachusett

Favorite Quote: “There may be people that have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.” - Derek Jeter

Advice to team members: My biggest piece of advice is to set realistic goals that will push you to your limits! The only way to improve is through hard work and persistence. Also, make sure to always support your teammates and encourage each other. Take advantage of this opportunity to make new friends with likeminded people and have fun!

Sara prendergast (2019)

Favorite Course: Algonquin!

Favorite Quote: "If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you" - Fred Devito

Advice to team members: Stay open-minded and optimistic.  Running is hard for everyone, no matter how fast you are.  Make friends and run with people who encourage you to work hard everyday. Set goals for yourself!  You will not improve unless you push yourself!

Kathryn McCarthy (2019)

Personal Bests: 1mi: 5:48.92  2mi: 12:07.90  5k: 20:11

Favorite Quote: "I run to breathe the fresh air. I run to explore. I run to escape the ordinary. I run...to savor the trip along the way. Life becomes a little more vibrant, a little more intense. I like that"

Advice to team members: Take the hard days hard and the easy days easy, and fuel your body right! Running is physical, but it is also mental. Expect and embrace the struggle because on the days you cannot run, you will find that you miss it.

Advice to team members: Set expectations for yourself and high standards for your work ethic and training.  It does not matter what your times are, just that you are trying your best all of the time and, of course, having fun!!

Personal Bests: Mile: 6:04  5k: 21:25

Favorite Course: Shepperd Hill

Favorite Quote: "If you can feel the pain, then you aren't going fast enough"

Advice to team members: We are all fortunate to be a part of a group of kind, driven, and inclusive girls; take advantage of this opportunity to make new friends and have fun.  Know that you have the ability to access this support system wherever you are, both on and off the XC course. Otherwise, work hard, look to be your best self, and embrace the running season!

liliko uchida (2018)

Favorite Course: Wachusett

Favorite Quote: Ask yourself, "Can I give more?" The answer is usually yes. - Paul Tergat

Advice to team members: Running takes a lot of self trust and will power.  Trust yourself that you can push a little bit harder and run a little bit faster each day.  In the end, you will have created a foundation of self-pride that is indestructible.

Annemarie Wood (2018)

Personal Bests: 5k: 23:01

Favorite Course: Ours of course!

Favorite Quote: "I always loved running...it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power.  you could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs"

Advice to team members: Never give up! Talent is great, but in my experience, hard work, intelligence, and persistence can get you even farther. If you can find it in yourself to push a little harder each time you run, you will keep improving. When your muscles are telling you to give up but your brain is telling you to keep going, it can be hard to remember why you are doing this in the first place, but cross country is as much a mental sport as a physical one.  Stay focused, stay motivated, but also remember to have fun with it. Best of luck to you all!

Tess Reyes (2018)

Favorite Quote: "I'm going to work so that its a pure guts race at the end, and if it is, I am the only one who can win it" -Steve Prefontaine

Advice to team members: Set five impossible goals each season and see how many you can achieve. Always support each other, and hold each other accountable. Even if it can't be your day, work to make it your team's day.

Abby Hurley (2018)

Personal Bests: Mile: 6:31  5k: 22:04

Favorite Course: Stanley Park

Favorite Quote:

"3 miles

2 shoes

1 big family"

Advice to team members: No matter what your times say, always be proud of how you did in the race.  You put in hard effort throughout the season and that is what counts. Create a goal early in the season and try your very best to achieve it. It is all about the effort you put into it and to enjoy your season. In the end, the most important rule is to have fun.
