I started cross-stitching when I was about 10-12 years old. It was some sort of activity or part of a subject in class. I enjoyed it as a kid. It was then my mother took out her stash of Anchor and Cosmic floss (thread) and some printed designs. Probably only a fellow embroiderer would know how ancient the stash was from the type of floss used. She passed her things, or as how I prefer to perceive it as, treasure, to me. I stopped stitching when I got into high school, then picked it up again briedly during matriculation. My cross-stitching box was left to collect dust. I lost some of my mother's treasure back in 2017 during the massive flood that hit Penang. The printed designs were pretty much gone but we managed to salvage a box of floss.

In January 2021, I thought it would be fun to revisit my old hobby. Told my mother about it and we took a trip down to our favourite sewing store close to home. Bought some fabric, hoop, floss, and needles. I looked up online for a design. A great tit bird design by DMC caught my attention. Great tit. Of course.

Little workplace. Sesungguhnya minyak Yu Yee itu harus.

And so my adventure in cross-stitch began. Learning skills to make my stitch better, creating my own design, getting myself involved in the community, and exploring extraordinatory designs and techniques. I still have a long way to go, oh you can see them from some of the works I produced. This obsession lead me to getting myself my very own lazy chair. Nenek-level upgraded liao.

You see, I suck at almost anything related to visual arts. For real. I'm pretty good at crafts and performing arts. Cross-stitch is in my zone! Initially I thought hey, I just want to stitch a bunch of frogs because it is statisfying af. It later on grew that I want and I will stitch for wildlife and conservation. It's my version of working-from-home to represent these wildlife.
