Biography:

Di Zhang (S'13-M'17-SM’19)  currently is an Associate Professor at Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen, China. Before that, he was an Associate Professor of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China, from 2018 to 2025. He received his PhD degree with Dinstiction 1st honor from Waseda University in 2017. He was a Visiting Scholar of Korea University (2023-2024), Researcher of Waseda University (2016-2022), Senior Researcher of Seoul National University (2017-2018), and a visiting student of National Chung Hsing University (2012). 

He has participated in many international projects co-funded by the EU FP-7, EU Horizon 2020, Japan Soumushou, NICT, and Korea NRF, he was the PI of many projects funded by Sun Yat-sen University, NSFC, Henan Natural Science Foundation and Zhengzhou University. He is serving as the Vice-Chiar of IEEE VTS Mission-Critical Communications Technical Committees, Associate editor of IET Quantum Communication,  Journal of Circuits Systems and Computers, young editor of Communications Technology, Aerospace Technology and Journal of Wuhan University (science edition). He has served as area editor of KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems, guest editor of the IEEE Wireless Communications, the IEEE Network, IEICE Transactions on Internet and Information Systems, chair and TPC member of various conferences such as IEEE ICASSP, IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE GLOBECOM, IEEE ICC, IEEE HEALTHCOM and IEEE MILCOM. 

He received the Second Prize Award of Natural Science Achievements of Henan Province in 2025, the Young Talent Researcher Fund of Henan Province in 2024, the Second Prize Awawrd for Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Henan Province in 2024, the First Prize Awawrd for Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Henan Province in 2023, the First Prize Award for Science and Technology Achievement of Henan Department of Education in 2023, the ITU Young Author Award in 2019 and the IEEE Outstanding Leadership Award in 2019. 

His research interests are the wireless communications and networking, especially the short packet communications and its various applications.
