When does Syracuse Speedskating Club meet?
Syracuse Speedskating holds practice for all levels Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning at 5:15pm and ending at 6:45pm
The skating season starts November 2nd.
Where is the rink?
All practices are held at Sunnycrest Ice Arena, 699 Robinson Street, Syracuse, NY (Next to next to Henninger High School)
I'm new to speedskating. How do I try it?
Learn to Skate is held the first Tuesday of every month during our skating session (November through March), 5:15 - 6:45 PM. It's free the first time, and we have skates in most sizes for you to borrow! Click on the "Try Speedskating for free" box at the bottom of the page to sign up!
What do I wear to skate?
You need a helmet. A bike helmet will do for the first try.
You must have gloves or mittens, preferably cut-proof.
You will need to dress warmly, the rink is cold. Wear warm tights or jogger pants (Sweats are too bulky), a long sleeved shirt, a fleece top or jacket.
Bring a water bottle.
If you have knee pads, that's a plus.
Eventually you will want eye protection, a neck guard and shin guards.
So, what happens if I like it and want to continue?
We allow two free sessions for all new skaters, which includes ice fees and skates. If you join the club after the two free sessions, your skating fees will be prorated for remaining sessions. Skate rental fees are not prorated.
I like it and want to continue, but I don't have skates.
Skate rental is available for $75 per season. This must be paid in full along with a $50 deposit before skating. The deposit will be returned to you at the end of the season upon return of skates. Skate rental fees are not prorated.
REFUND POLICY: Skating, membership and skate rental fees are non-refundable
I'm an experienced skater visiting, can I come skate?
Of course you can! Drop-in skate is $20 per session. Skaters may drop-in up to five times. After that, skaters must pay a club membership fee of $25 to continue skating. Drop-in skaters must be an enrolled member of US Speedskating.

The first half of each practice focuses on the basics and provides both beginning and experienced skaters the skills needed to progress in the sport. Coaches focus on proper skating position and technique in a fun and encouraging environment. Youth and new skaters compete as their skills and confidence improves.
In the second half of practice skaters are put in groups to receive differentiated instruction and take part in intensive training designed for competitive success. The focus is on strength, endurance, technique, strategy and starts.
