Check out the calendar for training runs, races, and events!
The Fall season has officially begun, now is our time to shine runners! STC had a strong showing at the first PGXC race in Buffalo this past weekend. It was great to see so many of our runners out there racing, cheering each other on, and representing the club! Nothing says “team spirit” like a dedicated group of runners willingly traveling two hours to loop a field, scale a 10-foot wall (twice), and race through the grass! Let’s keep the momentum going, the PGXC race 2 is Sunday October 4th at Center Park in Fairport, come and join the fun! In addition to XC, I know many of you are preparing for (or have just completed) goal races this season. Here are a few September shoutouts:
Jade Barth and Brigitte Aungier: Competing at World Triathlon Age Group Championships in Spain 9/24
Abby Feyerabend: 1st female at Wicked Fast Marathon Poconos 3:18:44
Leanne Powers: 2nd place female 40-44 at Erie Marathon 3:31:57
Sam Morse: 1st place overall and new course record at Sackets Harbor Half Marathon 1:08:22
Jing Zhang: 2nd place female overall at Sackets Harbor Half Marathon 1:24:38
Jim Vandish: 5th place overall at GLER Galeforce 12 hour race, completing 59 miles
Zoey Zhu: 5th place female 50-54 at TCS Sydney Marathon 3:05:41
I’d love to hear about your Fall races, send a race recap to syracusetrackclub@gmail.com, whether you ran a PR or survived a tough day, let’s celebrate your wins and accomplishments! Until next time, see you on the run!
There was a lot to celebrate individually and as a club. Our own Lee Berube won the race overall. We had several new STC runners make an immediate impact, including Mike Burns (who finished 10th overall) and Coe Booker (14th overall) who helped our Men’s Open; and Lynn Hart, 2nd in Women's Vets. Zoey Zhu won Women's Vets, Mary Swan won Women's Super Vets, and Dave Cook won Men's Masters. Our Women's Vets and Men's Masters teams both won their classifications.
Just as important were all the runners who came out and completed teams for STC, including people like John Eckert and Mark Anthony, who are both still well into their recovery from injuries. Every runner matters in this series, and Sunday's turnout showed what our club can do when we get people to the starting line.
After Race 1, the Club Cup standings are:
GVH — 47 points
STC — 42 points
Checkers AC — 30 points
Brock University — 10 points
FLRC / High Noon — 10 points
Snyder TF — 7 points
Auburn Pulsars — 4 points
Roadkill — 3 points
Next up is Race 2: Sunday, October 4 at Center Park in Fairport, hosted by GVH.
