Hello everyone. I have a nas synology and I would like to run volume directly on it, I have a lot of terabytes of music and I want it to be more fluid and not have to use the raspberry. I would like to know if the x86 image can be virtualized for synology virtual manager or some docker and if you can explain to me since I was not able with any of the things. Can somebody help me? Thank you

First of all thanks for your time and help.

If vmdk works, I have it like this.

It really works perfectly virtualbox and volmio vmdk. the problem is that i think i need to configure the vbox user group so that usb works. but between the documentation is in English, that I do not have much knowledge of linux console and that it is a git version for synology I am not able xD.

If you know how to make it work I would appreciate it.

i started recently with OH2 and antil now i have a RPi3 running with the openhabian image.

Last week i exchanged my old Synology DS411 with a DS1517+ and i would like to have OH2 running on my synology.

I saw that there are two different options - a) install spk-Package b) install Docker and run OH2 inside Docker.

All my items are defined in the items-files, same for the rules in rules-files, which are all located in the exported container-conf-volume,

so backup is easy. But i decided to discover the things using the paperui and therefore i dont have any thing-definitions in own things-files.

i dont know where to find the internal thing-definitions inside the docker and how to export them to the things-files, so after an upgrade i have to

use paperui to discover things again.

A bit old, but thought I would give my personal perspective on the question of spk vs docker for future readers. I will now only use official Synology software, or Synology recommended software directly on my NAS. Anything else, like Openhab, goes into a virtual host like docker. And importantly, enforce resource limitations.

The reason is that I encountered a situation where my NAS became unresponsive during installation of an OpenHAB spk. The consequence was that, having waited a very long time, I had no alternative but to risk a NAS power down. Unsurprisingly, there was damage. Even after recovering access to data, it was clear that the NAS was still suffering and so I did a total rebuild from backups.

Prior to that, I had good experiences with the spk option, and I may have just been unlucky. Also, I am unable to say if it was the spk that caused the problem, or a failure with the Synology manual install mechanism.

I've created a Virtual Machine in Synology Disk Station Manager (an ubuntu server) with a specific amount of storage space in a virtual disk, but I have depleted it. Went to Synology Disk Station / Virtual Machine Manager again and expanded the virtual disk; however, the space is not recognized inside Ubuntu Server. How can I fix this?

I have managed to find a solution. First I booted the system using GParted Live ISO and used the "VERIFY" command on the partition that was showing an exclamation mark, which was the right one. Then booted into the virtual machine and, in the command line, expanded the LVM and filesystem using the commands:

I search a lot and ended up here however I found out that there is a more simple way that worked for me without the need to boot another image . After you resize your VM storage from synology interface, you should be able to see the free space. You can take advantage of it using normal tools like fdisk and create a new partition. If you want to grow your space without booting a different image you will be limited to last partition, in your case sda3. In order to do this, start your VM log into it and install growpart that is part of cloud-utills

You have a logical volume so that can span on multiple partitions so you can try ether to create a new partition then extend logical volume on it or just grow the exited one as I suggested. Here is more info on logical volumes. -to-extendresize-lvm-and-volume 152ee80cbc
