By Plane:
Palermo is connected to the rest of Italy and Europe thanks to its airports:
- Palermo International Airport (PMO), about 32 km west of the city
- Trapani Airport, for low cost flights, with bus transfers to Palermo city
By Ferry:
The Port of Palermo is connected by ferry to major Italian ports including Genova, Civitavecchia, Napoli, Valletta (Malta) and Cagliari (Sardinia).
By Train:
You can reach Palermo by train, coming from Roma or Napoli via the train ferry across the Strait of Messina.
General Information
From Airport ‘Falcone e Borsellino’ to Palermo Center it takes about 45 minutes.
Just outside the main exit, on the right, there is an excellent bus service to Palermo city centre. The cost of a round ticket is 10 euros; one way ticket is 6 euros.

There is also a train station inside the airport; the one-way cost of train tickets from the airport to Palermo city centre is 6.80 euros. Tickets can be purchased online on the website: https://www.thetrainline.com/it
It is not advisable to take a taxi from the airport to Palermo Center; if you wish to take a taxi from the airport we suggest the taxi buses (8 euros one way), which leave next to the buses.
From Palermo city center to the University Campus it takes about 30 minutes on foot. The cost of a taxi is about 10 euros. There are no easy connections with public transport.
From the center of Palermo you can walk to Palazzo Steri (Rectorate) in 10-15 minutes.
