Proposals for presentations and posters are invited for the Symposium on Spanish Subjects (SSS), a one-day virtual workshop for scholars to present their research on any aspect of subject usage in Spanish. Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
-Variationist work on subject expression or subject placement
-Pragmatic analyses related to contrast, politeness, anaphora, or any other discourse-pragmatic functions of subjects
-Pronominal choice and/or person-reference forms related to the use of subjects
All theoretical approaches are welcome. Since this topic has been very widely studied, it will be important in your proposal to highlight the significance and originality of your analysis.
Format: Full-length presentations will be 20 minutes with 10 minutes for Q&A, and posters will be 10 minutes with 5 minutes for Q&A. Presentations can be given in English or Spanish.
Abstracts should be anonymous and should not exceed one page in length, including examples, tables/figures, and references. Please submit your abstract as a Word document to philip.limerick@centre.edu with "SSS Abstract" as the subject line, and also indicate in your Word file whether you want it to be considered as a presentation, poster, or both.
Participation in the conference is free of charge.
