Our work “Visual exploration of intracranial aneurysm blood flow adapted to the clinical researcher” by Benjamin Behrendt, Wito Engelke, Philipp Berg, Oliver Beuing, Ingrid Hotz, Bernhard Preim and Sylvia Saalfeld was awarded with the 1st place at the Dirk Bartz Competition (the Eurographics Medical Prize) at this year’s EuroVis Conference! The contribution describes an explorative system for the visualization of intracranial blood flow in aneurysms and was a joint project between the Computational Medicine group at Forschungscampus STIMULATE, the University Hospital Magdeburg and the Linköping University in Sweden.

My master student Lena Spitz was awarded with the Rudolf-Kruse-Price 2020. This award is given annually by the faculty to a student for the best student scholarly publication. Lena submitted her JCARS Paper:
Combining Visual Analytics and Case-Based Reasoning for Rupture Risk Assessment of Intracranial Aneurysms,
Lena Spitz, Uli Niemann, Oliver Beuing, Belal Neyazi, Erol Sandalcioglu, Bernhard Preim and Sylvia Saalfeld, International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery, 15(9), p. 1525-1535, https://doi.org/10.1007/s11548-020-02217-9, 2020.
which is based on her bachelor thesis that I also supervised. Congratulations!
At the annual meeting of the German Society for Neuroradiology (neuroRAD), the society for brain aneurysm patients "Der Lebenszweig e.V." (The Branch of Life) gives awards for the best lecture and the best poster in the field of aneurysm and AVM research. This year, our research about Vessel Wall Enhancement presented at the neuroRAD congress was awarded as the best lecture:
Larsen, N.; Saalfeld, S.; Flüh, C.; Voß, S.; Hille, G.; Pravdivtseva, M.; Berg, P.: Focal Enhancement of intracranial aneurysms in MR vessel wall imaging: Multimodal validation of a biomarker for increased risk of rupture, In: 55th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Neuroradiology Frankfurt, Germany, Clinical Neuroradiology, Suppl 1, 30, pages 9-10, 10/2020 : https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00234-020-02498-6
Our contribution "Combining high-resolution vessel wallimaging with image-based flow evaluation in unruptured middle cerebral aneurysms" by Berg, P., Larsen, N., Flüh, C., Voß, S., Saalfeld, S. was awarded with a Poster Award at the 54rd Annual Congress of theGerman Society for Neuroradiology (neuroRAD 2019), Frankfurt, Germany.
We got the approval of the German Research Foundation (DFG) for our GEPARD (GEfäßwandsimulation und -visualisierung zur Patientenindividualisierten Blutflussvorhersage für die intrakranielle AneuRysmamoDellierung) proposal. The project was developed by Dr.-Ing. Philipp Berg and Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Saalfeld. The 3-year project comprises two PhD-positions and aims at blood flow simulation and visualization of patient-specific intracranial aneurysms. Intracranial aneurysms and their associated rupture risk have been active research areas of both applicants for the last years. With the GEPARD project, especially the morphology of the intracranial vessel wall and its influence on the subsequent blood flow simulation will be examined. Furthermore, the extravascular space will be incorporated into the analyses as well. The project will be carried out in close cooperation with the neuroradiology department of the university hospital Magdeburg and will be integrated into the Forschungscampus STIMULATE.
