Biography

Sylvester Boadi Aboagye is an Assistant Professor in the School.School.of Engineering, University of Guelph, Canada. From January to December 2023, he served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Electrical and Computer Science, York University, Toronto, Canada.  He recieved the B.Sc. (Honors) degree in Telecommunication Engineering  from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, in 2015, the M.Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from Memorial University, St. John's, Canada in 2018, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Memorial University in 2022. His research interests include resource allocation in radio frequency (sub-6GHz, mmWave, andTHz) and visible light communication systems, reconfigurable intelligent surface enabled wireless communications, application of optimization and machine learning, integrated sensing and communication systems, and non-terrestrial communication systems. He is a member of the IEEE and an EIT Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).

Dr. Aboagye received The 2023 Governor General's Gold Medal in Graduate Studies for being the best graduating Ph.D. student at Memorial University, the David Dunsiger Award for Excellence, and the Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowships for Black and Indigenous Scholars, 2022. His Ph.D. dissertation "Design of VLC and heterogeneous RF/VLC systems for future generation networks: an algorithmic approach" was nominated by Memorial University for the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies-ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award 2023 in Engineering/Medical Sciences/Natural Sciences.
