Spoiler Alert - Awa Update March 2022

What finally happened and as it all turned out...

Disappointing, that the final episode was made to cover many years of events, patched together to bring the series to an end quickly, it appears.  Or they ran out of time and/or money to complete the sixty-eight series as carefully and with such control as most earlier elisodes were done.

In the end, just about everyone dies, except our two main characters, Awa, the Lord, Awa's brother who gets his girl, finally, and the large batch of children that our hero and heroine manage to adopt.  A quick wrap-up, ending with a young girl stepping on the large map of the kingdoms and naming them, close to what happens in the opening scene of this epic tale. The geography is learned and re-learned, names of the kingdoms, no matter that the power is now all shifted to one nice happy ruling couple, and peace appears ready to rein supreme over all the land.

The series was made in China, filmed in 2018 and 2019, I think.  An example of contemporary Chinese drama, cinema made for Chinese television audiences.  The translations of this PBS version are lame, really second rate, so I must assume that the money ran out for that service as well, and also it seems NOT to be made to appeal to a Western audience for just that reason. Translations for expressions used by the characters include slang such as "my bad," and xxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxxx, offer comic relief in most unexpected places.
