I teach this course because I believe that an education in basic Statistics leads to empowerment for you as an individual, as well as for your community. In teaching Statistics, I strive to help you gain a better understanding of the world and the society in which you live. I hope to help you develop skills to detect cases of falsely used Statistics which are often used to wrong and oppress others. At the same time, I hope to help you gain additional ways to back up your own arguments and views in life with Statistical analysis.
I will provide you with a clear, organized course that is designed to ensure you meet our course outcomes in a meaningful manner.
I will provide a variety of assignments and present material in multiple formats to ensure your learning needs are met.
I will be actively present in your learning.
I will provide a supportive and safe environment for you to share and discuss ideas with your peers.
I will treat you with dignity and respect and be flexible to support your individual needs.
I will reach out to you when I sense that you need support.
I am human and will make mistakes. I will listen to your concerns and view mistakes as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Is there anything else you would like to add to this list? If so, you will have a chance to make a suggestion in the orientation module on Canvas.
You will strive to be an active participant in this course and aim to meet due dates.
You will maintain an open line of communication with me so I understand how to support you.
You will contact me if you have a concern with meeting a due date.
You will strive to regularly contribute to collaborative activities to ensure other members of the community have ample opportunity to read/listen, reflect, and respond to your ideas.
You will treat me and your peers with dignity and respect.
You will give yourself the freedom to make mistakes knowing that myself and your peers will treat any mistakes for what they are: a chance to learn and to grow.
You will do your best to have patience with technology. There will be hiccups, expect them. We will get through them together.
Is there anything else you would like to add to this list? If so, you will have the chance to make a suggestion in the orientation module on Canvas.
